What make of strings???

Bill; Mark has an open serial number request for an Epic, so I'm guessing his six string reference is to a bass.
 
Mark; there is no one clear favorite among the members here.  Lots and lots of different brands and types have their fans here.  If you want, you can click on Search, in the upper right corner of the page, and run a search of different string brands or types; I would imagine you'll find a lot of past threads with helpful information.  Personally, my six string Alembic bass has TI Jazz Rounds on it; but that's just me.

Strings can make a significant impact on tone as well as feel and playability.  There's definitely no right string for everyone.  
 
What musical style(s) do you play?  Bright and twangy or smooth and thumpy?  Stiff or flexible?  Does fret noise bother you?  How often are you willing to change your strings?
 
We can all tell you what we play, but we can get you a lot closer to the right string for you if you tell us a bit more about your preferences.
 
Oh, and you ain't that old...

Strings...to the people who find that strings are strings it does really depend on what and how how you play.
Rock players who use picks may prefer heavy guage, jazz player want a smooth tone, soul players want that round deep sound and funk players want that in your face sound.
There are so many to choose from but from a base grounding(and this is my opinion only!!!) try Rotosound Swing Bass..used by many of the great  bass players in the world so they cannot be bad.
But as BSee says...so many variables!!!!

I hate to say this but you really do have to try them. I play different brands across most of my basses to fit the style it is used for and the sound of the bass.

Thank you all for your returns...I'm a new member and thank you all for your help...Ok strngs, I like a 40 gauge for my G and I used Elites on my Jazz....I haven't changed the strings yet on my Orion...so I think this would be a good starting point. I play in a covers band, so I need many different sounds in on enight....regards Mark

It sounds like Elites should work for you on the Alembic as well.  The only thing to watch out for is that a new set of steel round wounds will tell the whole world if your technique is lacking.  Buy another set and try them on the Orion.  If you don't love them, move them to the Jazz and try again.  
 
I play in a bar band doing 90% covers and have really enjoyed a set of D'Addario half-round strings for the last several months.  The Alembic has a sweet enough high end response through the electronics that you don't need round wound steel to get a bright tone.  Good steel flats or in-between strings (half-rounds or compression wounds) give you a well defined bottom with enough high end for general use.  Wouldn't recommend them to someone playing in a Rush or Who tribute band, but they're great for general covers and easy on the fingers.

I still really like the Alembic strings- so much so that I haven't tried anything else yet. I have a set of Rotosound Swing Bass 66 that I will put on next time around. I always use them on my Rick 4001 so why not on my Essence. Michael

The CX-3 strings Alembic offers are great.  They are a compression wound steel set.  The compression winding involves using slightly flattened wire to wrap the outside of the string so that it has a half-round feel for your hands.  I really like the sound of these strings and they shouldn't be as rough on the frets as any of the stainless round strings that I once used.

Thanks again for your returns....the truth is, my strings are shot, but the Alembic sounds great....I can't wait to her the piano sound of new strings will give...I'm already blown away...but Roto Sound....They die far to quick for me, the Elites (with a clean ow and again) held thier piano longer...P.S. I'm poor.

I'm a big fan of R.Cocco strings, I use the heaviest gauge (50-110) Great tone!
