I have little information, and nothing current. What I do know is that Mica has been away from the office for several days and will continue to be away from the office. I don't know how long she will be out; hopefully, it won't be long.
I also know that she needs to rest.
Alembic is a small family run business. Not only is Mica away from work, but her family is undoubtedly focused on her care and well-being as well. So, my request to you is that we give all of them some space and time. FTC and Serial Number requests, telephone calls and emails. If it's not something that needs attention right now, then let's not be putting pressure on them right now.
Again, I have little information. My assumption is that the shop is open and the guys are there building instruments, and the family is dividing time between caring for and looking in on Mica and covering her responsibilities as well as their own at the shop.
I was not asked by Mica or Susan to post this, and I hope that I am not out of line in doing so. But the feeling I was getting from various threads and posts suggested to me that I needed to make this request of you at this time.
This is all I feel I should say on this as, again, I haven't spoken with anyone recently. I'm guessing it might not be helpful to deluge Mica and Susan with telephone calls and emails. You may, however, want to keep Mica in your thoughts and close to your heart.
Thanks,
David

good remarks moderdave. who could be upset with moderdave?- i let the cat out of the bag since i saw what was being posted and had some insight into what was going on as mica emailed me thursday and included business stuff- go figya...
everyone -please lay low and think positive happy thoughts.
chat amongst yourselves.
hopefully we will all hear some good news shortly.....
-
More importantly ...
Is there anything we can do to help, or anything that Bill and Mica need that we can, from a distance, provide? Maybe that's what we should focus on at the moment...
Just an idea,
Alan
-
prayers and positive karma are probably the best right now alan.......
-
I wish well soon and hopefully it is nothing too serious that is wrong.
I met Mica, Susan & Ron back in 2000 when I visited the factory whilst on holiday in the UK.
You couldn't meet a nicer bunch of people.
get well soon Mica
-
Oh now I know why Mica is away from her office...
Should have read the FTC thread first.
As a medical person myself and have two(now grown up children) I know the rigours of the said problem
Take care Mica and when that bundle of fun comes along I am sure he or she will be doted on my Ron & Susan
-
we're awaiting the future President/CEO of alembic inc......i can only imagine what the new line of alembics will be like in the next 20 years from now when this new President takes office!

My prayers and well wish go out to the entire Alembic crew and family.
Working for a small family owned bussiness myself I fully understand how some things can put extra burdens and increased work load on fellow workers and employees.
And after all they don't build assembly line intruments, each is a work of art as well as a Top-Shelve instrument.
And as always, kuddos to you Dave. You do a great and sometimes under appreciated job.
Olie

Let the strength of the low frequencies played be with her!
You have my positive thoughts Mica!
Be well!

Given the fact that Mica wears so many hats everyday at a non stop pace, a little R&R is probably well overdue.
Our good thoughts are with Mica and her family.
-
Nice spoken guy's!
Now it's our turn to help them as much as we could! So ... let's do what we have to do ...
All the best from the Dutch division to!

And the UK...

When I read all this, my first thought was Hmm.. maybe the next Alembic Featured Custom?.
Best wishes in advance Mica and family.

Jo:
Welcome to the forum. Mica is the daughter of Alembic founders Ron & Susan Wickersham. She's been raised at Alembic. She certainly doesn't work for GC and I believe she never has. Alembic has kept her pretty darn busy, and I suspect there's something that's going to be keeping her a lot busier for the next few years! As for a used bass, keep an eye on the Swap Shop and Wish Lists section of the club.
Bill, the guitar one
-

My perspective isn't as fresh as Kevin's - Erik was born on my oldest's 30th b-day. Congratulations, Mica & Bill. Be assured that they never stop surprising you (My mom concurs).

Congrats Mica and Bill (and Grandma and Grandpa too!)! But really now--another new model that starts with E??? At least this one doesn't have to be serialized. Will be watching the staff pages for photos.

Brilliant Observation Kent. I wonder if that means that Susan named him.

P.S. I spoke with Mica on Monday. Everyone is doing great. Actually, it sounds like their all still on Cloud 9 and will be for awhile.

Hey Mica, hey Bill,

Looks like he is thinking: what will be the first Alembic bass I design?
All the best to all of you, including grandma and grandpa of course.
(Guys, you have to take a look at the announcement chapter to
see that nice pic of Erik)
Oliver (Spyderman)

such a handsome lad.....
mazel tov
-
the photo should go on the front of the website as
THE custom of the month
lol
-
I'd say custom of the year! He will doubtless produce very high output...of both decibels and um, substances. :D
-
What a beautiful child.
Congradulations, and may you have a long and healthy, happy life.
God Bless, Paul Mikul
-
Geez, little guy just got here and is already sporting Beatle hair! I'm jealous!
Good looking fella you have there Mica.

I love the scale length comment in the announcement.
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!. Not much else you can say about him;-)
Graeme

I've just checked the stats. At 9lb 11oz, erik's birthweight was exactly the same as the combined weight of my eldest daughter (1 month early - 5lb 9oz) and my son (2 months early - 4lb 2oz!).
Graeme
-
Congratulations to Mica and Family!
-
I see the Alembic T shirt is close to him...educate early eh???
It is a long time ago since that happened to me and I sometimes think where does the time go
(Daughter 24 years old, graphic designer, Son 19 years old, autoparts assistant and angry bass player!!!)
Enjoy the time as they grow up pretty fast
-
hi people
i had the distinct pleasure of speaking with momma mica today. all is well. she is on a strict rest regime after a long delivery attempt. or as i said and we think waiting for an alembic is tough?....lol
She will be back in the shop in the next week or two.
erik is doing fine. He's growing into a series 2 weight zone....lmao
-
I'm glad all is well! I wonder if some new oval
inlay ideas may come from this. Personalized face
ovals. Yeah, thats the ticket!
Terrc, I really connect with your statement. I've
got three and they are every where. Enjoy the
moment.
Congrats again Mica and all.
NLP
-
Oh, an Alemboy.
Sorry had to make this joke since nobody did it before.
Congratulations from Germany.
Gruesse, Pablo
-
Dear Mica and family,
Sincere congratulations from our household to yours.
May Erik bring years and years of happiness into your home and hearts (not like it was missing or anything like that)
Our one child (now 10) has fortunately done that for us.
Mazel Tov for sure!
Art
-
I'm a little late, but better than never!!
Congrats to the Clan, Mica, Bill, Ron and Susan!
My boy is 14, and the above posters are correct, they do grow up fast! Mine is buggin me for a PA all the time...I think Eric might have better luck when he's that age (Grampa, can we build a PA?).
And for that matter, how does this Custom creation sound? Bet it screams hee hee hee
Congrats nonetheless!
-
I'll bet at 14 he'll still be digging on James Brown, with apologies to Tower of Power.
-
Thanks for all your kind thoughts and wishes. My recovery went really well and Erik's doing great. He pretty much sleeps on the job:
-
Looking good Mica. I was expecting to see him in an Alembic romper suit though ;-)
Graeme
-
Sweet!
-
Good looking Kiddo!
-
Beautiful Baby Boy : )
Spend as much time with him as you can, they grow up so fast.
: )
-
Wonderful picture! Thanks for posting!!
-
Is that gig bag behind Mica the carrying case for him?
-
Thanks for sharing the picture, Mica! He's an adorable little fellow, and you look radiant. Motherhood suits you.
-
Congratulations Mica ! Lovely picture.
Maybe a future Alembic bass player ?...
-
Oooohmauhwgooood!!!
I became uncle in my absence!
Yodelihoooo!
Mica ...this is great!
Mother well and ravissant as always and I guess the father is tired -they always are!
Congratulations!
Paul the bad one
-
Quite the handsome little dude - and, i must add, I LOVE the hippy-chick blouse, Mica!
Peter
-
Thanks, Peter, he is awfully handsome and I love that Ukrainian blouse too. But I had to share Erik's latest shirt today:
So far he seems to be leaning toward being a drummer. The way he kicks all the time I'd say a double kick drum! Finger wiggling may point to piano playing or maybe even one of the stringed instruments we make here.
Thanks again for the kind words, all.
-
Hey Mica-
Have you recieved my phone messages and emails about my order? Can you please get back to me this week with an update?
ThanKS,
Andy
-
That is a delightful picture Mica, thanks for sharing it. Erik sure looks happy and content.
Mark
-
Nice shirt! Erik is growing so fast. He looks like a very happy boy thanks to you , Bill and the rest of the family!
-
Mica,
He is growing fast. Since Erik has leanings towards percussion does this mean Alembic will start looking into making a new line of drum kits? :-)
Keith
-
Why not let Erik inspire an Alembic version of the Chapman Bass stick so that the bottom can rule over the Top for a change. That covers his desire for percussive sounds. What a thought, get rid of the overplaying drummer. Next boot out the EVH clone. At his point, I'm sure his bottom is going to rule anyway until he talks and walks, then he will really tell his parents what he thinks! Get sleep Mica, it is a very valuable commodity.
