Title: Please read - regarding Mica
Post by: David Houck on July 08, 2007, 07:49:35 AM
I have little information, and nothing current.  What I do know is that Mica has been away from the office for several days and will continue to be away from the office.  I don't know how long she will be out; hopefully, it won't be long.

I also know that she needs to rest.

Alembic is a small family run business.  Not only is Mica away from work, but her family is undoubtedly focused on her care and well-being as well.  So, my request to you is that we give all of them some space and time.  FTC and Serial Number requests, telephone calls and emails.  If it's not something that needs attention right now, then let's not be putting pressure on them right now.

Again, I have little information.  My assumption is that the shop is open and the guys are there building instruments, and the family is dividing time between caring for and looking in on Mica and covering her responsibilities as well as their own at the shop.

I was not asked by Mica or Susan to post this, and I hope that I am not out of line in doing so.  But the feeling I was getting from various threads and posts suggested to me that I needed to make this request of you at this time.

This is all I feel I should say on this as, again, I haven't spoken with anyone recently.  I'm guessing it might not be helpful to deluge Mica and Susan with telephone calls and emails.  You may, however, want to keep Mica in your thoughts and close to your heart.

Thanks,

David

More importantly ...

Is there anything we can do to help, or anything that Bill and Mica need that we can, from a distance, provide?  Maybe that's what we should focus on at the moment...

Just an idea,

Alan

I wish well soon and hopefully it is nothing too serious that is wrong.
I met Mica, Susan & Ron back in 2000 when I visited the factory whilst on holiday in the UK.
You couldn't meet a nicer bunch of people.
get well soon Mica

Oh now I know why Mica is away from her office...
Should have read the FTC thread first.
As a medical person myself and have two(now grown up children) I know the rigours of the said problem
Take care Mica and when that bundle of fun comes along I am sure he or she will be doted on my Ron & Susan

My prayers and well wish go out to the entire Alembic crew and family.
Working for a small family owned bussiness myself I fully understand how some things can put extra burdens and increased work load on fellow workers and employees.
And after all they don't build assembly line intruments, each is a work of art as well as a Top-Shelve instrument.

And as always, kuddos to you Dave. You do a great and sometimes under appreciated job.

Given the fact that Mica wears so many hats everyday at a non stop pace, a little R&R is probably well overdue.
Our good thoughts are with Mica and her family.

Jo:

Welcome to the forum.  Mica is the daughter of Alembic founders Ron & Susan Wickersham.  She's been raised at Alembic.  She certainly doesn't work for GC and I believe she never has.  Alembic has kept her pretty darn busy, and I suspect there's something that's going to be keeping her a lot busier for the next few years!  As for a used bass, keep an eye on the Swap Shop and Wish Lists section of the club.

I'm glad all is well! I wonder if some new oval
inlay ideas may come from this. Personalized face
ovals. Yeah, thats the ticket!
Terrc, I really connect with your statement. I've
got three and they are every where. Enjoy the
moment.
Congrats again Mica and all.

Dear Mica and family,

Sincere congratulations from our household to yours.
May Erik bring years and years of happiness into your home and hearts (not like it was missing or anything like that)

Our one child (now 10) has fortunately done that for us.

Mazel Tov for sure!

I'm a little late, but better than never!!

Congrats to the Clan, Mica, Bill, Ron and Susan!

My boy is 14, and the above posters are correct, they do grow up fast!  Mine is buggin me for a PA all the time...I think Eric might have better luck when he's that age (Grampa, can we build a PA?).

And for that matter, how does this Custom creation sound?  Bet it screams hee hee hee

Congrats nonetheless!

I'll bet at 14 he'll still be digging on James Brown, with apologies to Tower of Power.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts and wishes. My recovery went really well and Erik's doing great. He pretty much sleeps on the job:

Thanks, Peter, he is awfully handsome and I love that Ukrainian blouse too. But I had to share Erik's latest shirt today:

So far he seems to be leaning toward being a drummer. The way he kicks all the time I'd say a double kick drum! Finger wiggling may point to piano playing or maybe even one of the stringed instruments we make here.

Thanks again for the kind words, all.

Mica,
He is growing fast. Since Erik has leanings towards percussion does this mean Alembic will start looking into making a new line of drum kits? :-)

Why not let Erik inspire an Alembic version of the Chapman Bass stick so that the bottom can rule over the Top for a change. That covers his desire for percussive sounds.   What a thought, get rid of the overplaying drummer.  Next boot out the EVH clone.  At his point, I'm sure his bottom is going to rule anyway until he talks and walks,  then he will really tell his parents what he thinks! Get sleep Mica, it is a very valuable commodity.
