Title: Essence trim pot to help with Fuzz Boxes?
Post by: palomorado on April 06, 2005, 09:10:32 AM
i know that the Essence has a trim pot thta lets you tailor the output level to your other basses
so if you balance the output of the Essence with your passive basses, will it be sending the same type of signal?

i ask because my Essence doesn't work too well with my ZVex Wooly Mammoth Fuzz box.  from what i understand it is the whole Active systems are too much problem

I had problems with my zvex effects and my Skylark.  No amount of turning down the trim pots fixed the problem with my fuzz factory or Octane III.  I think it was due to the way the active filters shape the tone.  They are more complex than a simple tone pot, and zvex effects seem to be particularly sensitive to a guitar's (and I would assume bass) settings, aside from the input volume and the pedal settings.  Some people have suggested attenuating the signal with an external device, but I can't see how this would really be better than the trim pots.  I will be curious to see if you have any luck.

my Machine sounds great through it.  very different then my passive basses sound but still a VERY cool sound in its own right.

i just can't get the Mammoth to sound good with it.

oh  well, it does sound great on my Chapman Stick!

Does the chapman also have active electronics?  I think that the problem with the active electronics may be limited to fuzz effects.  My other zvex effects worked fine with my alembics.  I have always wanted to try a machine.  They sound like they are particularly nasty.
