Title: Activator shapes
Post by: bigideas on May 04, 2005, 08:56:39 AM
i'm just wondering if there is a comprehensive list of the activator shapes available. also, is the gibson humbucker shape the big EB0 one, the modern thunderbird ones, or the old minis?

oh, another thing, is it possible to have a different relief on the front? for instance i was thinking a big alembic A like the one on the back of Austins peghead (the Ebony Custom 5 string in Factory to Customer.)

while i'm asking too many questions, is it possible to have marquetry done in the laminate on top of pickups? (again see Austins bass, or raimis or alot of recent basses)

thanks boys and girls

i know they'll do something different on the front of the headstock, because they did the stealie on mine, as well as the A on the back. I had a feeling we'd be seeing more of that 'a' in the future. glad my bass 'inspired' you!

i meant on the front of the activators. i suppose it would be on the top of the activator. if they can make custom shapes, couldn't they make custom reliefs.

i was actually just refering to the A on the back, that sortuv logo.

I am also curious about the activator shapes, as I am looking for Gibson Thunderbird-shaped pickups for my new Fenderbird project.  Do they exist in this size/shape?

Anyone know?

Thanks, Mike

It's not all the shapes, but it will get you started until I make a more elaborate webpage for the pickups.

wow, i wasn't expecting pictures. thanks mica. that there are different typefaces is interesting.

what about the marquetry in a wood lam top or a custom engraving? the differing fonts makes me think the engraving could be altered.
