Looking at all of the Series bass photographs it occurs to me that the neck pickup is physically larger than the bridge pickup by just a hair. Is this true or am I hallucinating? That would be so ironic if I were given this company's history...anyway... If this is the case, why would the neck pickup be larger than the bridge pickup on Series instruments...I've even seen it on older ones..

My 77 694 seem to be the same size but I would have to check with micrometer.

Hm, most people take pictures of the instrument on a stand. The camera is usually pointing downwards, so what you're observing must be plain old perspective distortion: the object that is closest to the observer appears to be bigger.

I've never noticed a difference looking at pics; and on mine, the pickups appear to be the same size. However, my eyesight is not great and I have not, as Howard suggested, measured with a micrometer. But it seems more likely that you are hallucinating. Enjoy!

The Series I, Series II and all AXY pickups are made in the same molds. Usually the neck pickup sits physically lower in the body, so you can see more of the routed edge of the mounting hole, and the small shadow it creates.
It's also possible you're noticing why it's so hard to take pictures of guitars! All those funny small angles add up real fast - it's as hard as architectural photography.

Well then I am hallucinating...
