I've had my eyes glued to my computer monitor for the last two hours in the Featured Custom and I've finally managed to drag myself in here!

Thanks for all of your kind words so far!  Personally, I am lost for words at the moment. My words wouldn't do it justice anyway!

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the Club who has contributed ideas, help, information and anything else I've forgotten about to the Dragon's Wing project.

Of course the biggest thanks have to go to absolutely everyone at Alembic for actually bringing this whole instrument to life, with their ideas, experience and craftsmanship. Surely there can be no equal?

It's a fantastic day for me!

Mmmmmmmm ...now let's do some thinking. If you Rog go to Ed to pick her up. So that will be a moment to ask Brother Jan with Marylin, Spyder Ollie with his 4 or 8 legs (huh ...strings), see if we can get Brother Steven, and Adriaan, and Willem, and Maarten, and maybe Brother Ingmar from Paris (he has the Alembic Dragonslayer ...watch THAT meeting with the Dragonwing) ... I'll bring Bonnie and ...hop ...an international Alembic Chapter gathering.
And Edwin will have a lot of crates of beer to crack!

All I've got to say is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And next Christmas I'm going to ask Santa for one of those inlays.....unfortunately after paying for the inlay I won't be able to afford a bass to put it on! Paul TBO, please hurry up with that stocking....

The nice people at Alembic have outdone themselves. That bass wins the award...especially in the design, inlay and carving categories. Even JE would be envious.

Congratulations to Roger, Susan, Mica, Mike Gutsch, Tony the carver, the entire Alembic team, and Roger of THG for an outstanding job well done.

Roger, I'm speachless.  What's your eta for this beauty?
Brother Paul, I haven't had a proper vacation for a couple of years, when's the party?

I've been out to friends this afternoon for Sunday dinner.  They've been following the development of the Dragon's Wing since the inception of the idea.  We've all been sat round a laptop for an hour looking at it.  They're not musicians themselves but they know and like fine things when they see them.  They gave me a lot of comments but the outstanding one was 'Look at the craftsmanship in that. And if I hadn't seen that inlay, I would never have believed it is possible to do it'.

ETA - not sure exactly. I have arranged to go to Hilversum to meet Edwin and collect it at the end of March. Get the beer in Ed!

Well guys ...there you got an answer!
Meeting in Hilversum at the end of March in Ed's shop!!! Brother Rog please be so kind to propose a date.
I'll call the police for fully escort and a bunch of impressive guitargards (there is no-body to gard except those of guitars) dressed in black and whirte with dark glasses and electronic wiring growing out of their ears.
i'll be the dude with the nylon stockings.

I think it should be up to Edwin to make the date public - after all, he might not want a shop full of lunatics with nylon stockings  ;-)

Roger,
A HUGE comgradulations on such an exquisite work of art! Now I REALLY wish I had held it when Valentino held it out to me. (Hmmm...any estimate on a ship date from Mica? Maybe my Rogue will be done before it does and...) Looks like you'll have to abandon the Chris and Geddy licks for a while to pay for this! (see HERE http://club.alembic.com/Images/449/7473.html?1073579717 (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=20802) for refernce to what I mean)

Well, Paul TBO, yes the dragon wing sounds as amazing as it looks...sounds like...coco bolo!
I love the sound of coco bolo in the morning (and in the afternoon, evening, night...my neighbours don't) ...it sounds like...victory..
The sound is growly and gorgeous like any self-respecting Alembic, and the bass is even more comfortable to play than I thought.  Even if you're a shorter (5'10) guy like me first position is very easily accessible, and it balances great.

I had the privilege of seeing this in person, about a week before xmas. No hardware yet, and the inlay was under tape, but the body was finished and the first thing I said to Susan was, it's a good thing you insisted on doing the wood placement yourself.

Sure, it looks great in the photos, but in person you really have a hard time believing it didn't just grow into this shape. I simply can't imagine that anyone could have done a better job. Stunning.

I have to admit I was in the camp that originally felt the buzzard concept was, well, not my thing... but with enough care and feeding, it has really morphed into a work of art. Congratulations. Nice to hear the balance is good, I was nervous looking at the pictures but didn't want to ask.

(Hey Rami, I got a chance to see yours as well. Just so you know, they're taking good care - as Valentino handed it to me, he said Don't bend the strings - even though there weren't any strings yet! And though I was reluctant, we did this very careful four-handed exchange thing, and I'm confident you'll be satisfied by the, uhm, density.)
