There have been several threads on the topic of strings.  These threads generate much interest, and rightfully so.  The starting point of your tone occurs when your fingers touch the strings.  I'll add links to these threads as I run across them.  A recent thread is here (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=3350).
