Title: Baritone Guitar Strings
Post by: hydrargyrum on May 24, 2004, 12:02:46 PM
Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about baritone guitar strings (i.e. brands, gauges, etc.).  Mine desperately need changing, and as they came on my Orion when I purchased it, I don't know anything about them.  Currently I am tuning the low string to B, but have considered trying a little higher.  Does anyone have an opinion about the feasability of tuning to D with light enough strings, and how light would that require?

C'mon, I know you all are mostly bass folks, and a smattering of guitar folks, but surely someone out there plays a Baritone Guitar.  By the way, I don't think I'll ever go back to a regular scale guitar.  My Orion sounds incredibly powerful in comparison (could just be the difference between the Alembic sound and my last guitar though).  I dream that someday I could own a custom eight string (extra bass strings, not treble) with a buckeye-burl top and ebony neck laminates with a fat hippie sandwich.  I'll start saving tommorow.

I think I've noticed maybe a few members of the group owning baritone guitars; but there aren't a lot .

Mica recommended the following last October:

D'Addario singles in these gauges:
.013
.018
.030
.044
.056
.070
We usually tune B-B.
