Title: My appreciation
Post by: hammer on October 19, 2025, 08:41:57 AM
Just wanted to let the people who use this site know how much I appreciate having it around. I spend most of my music related online time here but also visit TalkBass and other music related site occasionally. Compared to Club Alembic other sites have such a different vibe. It seems that every time someone asks for advice on these message boards, at least one responder and often several, feel the need to make snarky comments questioning everything from the original posters musicianship, knowledge of the field and/or their sanity. It doesn’t seem to matter whether the question is about string preferences, adjustment and setup, or technical difficulties one is experiencing.

On the other hand, on the Club Alembic site, people always offer thoughtful, insightful suggestions and advice. And posts in response to questions that have been asked many times are just as thoughtful and sincere as those offered in response to queries that are unique with advice coming from highly accomplished professionals as well as those of us who play primarily for enjoyment.

So my thanks go out to the moderators, posters, and people of Alembic who make this site possible. In an age when posting anything on social media is likely to get a negative response from someone, on this site it always stays positive and is helpful.

Hear, hear Brian!  Well said!  I too find this forum to be an island of intelligence amidst a sea of cyber mush.  Thanks to all who contribute to make this possible.

Bill, tgo

Totally agree, rarely look at or post on TalkBass for the same reasons and I don’t participate in any other social media.

For me, the Alembic Club is a wealth of information about Alembic instruments, as well as a welcome refuge from some things in the rest of the world that I find stressful, distressing, and depressing.

So let me add my thanks to Alembic, the people who operate this site, and the community of generous, friendly people who contribute so much knowledge.

Yes.  A calm port.  A communal mindset.
Love it here.

You know?  It’s simply an old rule we were brought up with.  No politics or religion at the dinner table.   :P

I am member of 6 guitar-oriented fora; I am a frequent visitor to 2 of them.
The other one is a lot more.....wild west.  And I enjoy that (most of the time).
But not as much as I enjoy my time here in The Most Civil Place On The Interwebz!  You folks are great.  While I enjoy hanging out in the virtual locker room at the other  place, there are very few there I'm interested in meeting in person; here, it's almost everybody (and I have met Edwin, Jimmy, Wolf & Bill; great guys one and all!)

Whilst many of us are heavily biassed towards alembic guitars and basses, we tend not to be judgemental like some other forums. By that I mean we don't rubbish non alembic brands or their owners for their choice. We sometimes have views on an individual instrument that has been badly made but we don't expand that to the whole brand. Usually when i read negative comments about alembics it tends to be based mainly on the cost.
On the other hand, being a member here has hammered by bank balance.... :-), but it has put a huge smile on my face.

Right on. My experience also. I’ve found advice and friendship here that are in short supply elsewhere.

Man, you said it!   :D
I may not post a ton, but I come to read the new posts nearly every day.  Gotta say - I REALLY appreciate all of the positivity and community spirit here, now more than ever.
For all the reasons everyone stated above, it's definitely one of the bright spots of the internet for me.
Many thanks all who make this a great forum!

I don't go on any other forums unless it's something for work, figuring out some instrument, etc.

This is easily one of the most civil online forums. Great to know people from various walks of life and different places. I've learned a lot about these extraordinary instruments along the way. I've purchased three basses here with no issues, starting with Brian's former long scale Distillate. (that and a bocote Spoiler have since been sold).
