It seems that my gear is falling apart around me!
This time, it's my SF-2 which I haven't played in a long time. It is emitting a tone at about 700 hz and is noisy. I got the noise down by exercising the pots 100 times each, but I can't get rid of it entirely. I also exercised the switches and jacks. Additionally, the level is not very loud, but if I play a loud signal into it, it jumps up. Very strange. Anyone experienced anything like this?
I would love to get this back into my rig.

How long is long for it being parked? All nuts are snug?

Years.
I think so.

With years of parking, dad would recommend another 100 turns of exercising, especially if the first 100 did any improving.

Does the SF-2 have switched input/output jacks? If it does I'd get some DeOxit, open it up and spray the connectors and contacts real well. I usually use an old 1/4 inch plug to exercise the jack when I do this.

Yup. Did this.
I'm going to try another 100 turns. I think RJW is probably right.

I had to do several hundred turns on a Series bass once and it worked (got rid of a squeal).

same here , for a while.
