Title: 1977 Series I Guitar with original paperwork - 77 655
Post by: bob311 on September 08, 2025, 09:46:52 AM
Hi all!

Long story short, just pulled this guitar out of a friend's closet that has been sitting for at least two decades unplayed. I posted in the troubleshooting forum for some assistance in cleaning it up and getting it in playing shape. But wanted to share with you all not only the guitar - but the fact that it still had the original paperwork, listing the builders (including Rick Turner, Ron, and team) and the specs. I am new to the Alembic work, but seems like a cool piece of history to share with everyone. I would love to know more about the history of this guitar if anyone knows - serial 77 655, and would love to know how many guitars were made in 77 (or before Rick left totally)!

Thanks all, looking forward to hanging out and learning!

Beautiful medium-scale guitar. The wood reminds me of 77-621, a medium-scale bass. The little knot is more prominent in that one mine.

Thanks! So mine has a more unique wood combo for the time?

Also, would love to learn how many guitars they made prior to Rick Turner leaving in 78 in total, or how many were made in 77. It would be cool to know how many guitar brother and sisters are out there before he left and Series II starting!

1977 starts with #615 in my list, but there are some export models that are not counted in that number .

Edit: Was thinking it's a '76 guitar :-)  1978 starts with #995 in my list.

FWIW, earliest 1977 number I know of is 595. 77-603 is a purpleheart topped medium-scale guitar. They're all quite unique. Yours is no exception... beautiful guitar. In my time here, I've come to appreciate the individual nature of them.

I agree, it is fascinating seeing how they all differ as I am learning more! None better or worse, just different. And different is good :)

Is there a kept list somewhere by someone on the forum for each known instrument from that era? I imagine it would be impossible to do, but you never know. I spoke to Mary via the business phone number the other day and she was going to look in the file to learn more about this. Would love to learn who it was made for, other details, etc. Knowing more of the story is such a cool thing!
