Title: RIP OZZY
Post by: garyhead on July 22, 2025, 12:14:38 PM
And with a Bang!  Ozzy has left the theater.  His latest book will be released this October.  He (surprisingly) made it to 76.  Just two weeks after his last performance with Black Sabbath.

Black Sabbath's first three albums came out when I was in high school.  The song Black Sabbath off the first album was compelling, like nothing I had heard before.  My band at the time played Paranoid and Sweet Leaf.  Never heard any of his work after that.

But Ozzy's bands where a major influence for a lot of what came later, perhaps especially because of Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads, and Zakk Wylde.

a world without Ozzy seems less...I have a funny little Ozzy story; there was a show here in Vancouver where he got through a few songs, barfed offstage and bailed claiming flu...the truth was he'd smoked a huge fatty with a couple local crew that were Rasta's and couldn't handle the local weed, as they sure didn't notice sickness before...

R.I.P. Ozzy. Thanks for putting our home city of Birmingham on the music map of rock music.

RIP. What a legend. He touched a lot of people's lives, including mine.

I remember stomping up the porch stairs in beat while singing "Iron Man" over and over again when I was about ten years old. Later in life I was at an event in LA and he sat in the seat next to mine. I was too star struck to say anything to him. I'd like to write R.I.P. but I think he'll be busy in the other world. Nothing stops him.

Was never a fan, but wish the best for Sharon and the family.

Paranoid and Masters Of Reality were in heavy heavy rotation on my turntable when I was 13-14 (but then, so was Bloodrock......); I lost interest in that flavor of music about then though.
But, as a friend of mine once said, "The termination of personal timespan is always a bummer".  I second Joey's thoughts on Sharon, Aimee, Kelly & Jack.
And we will never see another rolled from the same makin's as John Michael Osbourne.

Peter (who will add that as short a time as I was into them, those albums were played a lot; the same could not be said for Led Zeppelin IV.........

There is an event i the city centre where the Black Sabbath Bridge is, on Broad Street. Here is a link to take a Black Sabbath bench selfie.

I have a friend who is working on the event and she said there is a live camera stream. I will post here for fans when she emails it to me.

You can imagine the Red Tape that had to be cut to do this on such short notice!  Royal protocols are notoriously strict.  Maybe our friends "across the pond" can chime in on how often there is a deviation of the norm for the King's band.

We went to London earlier this year visiting family and decided to do the tourist thing and walked down to Buckingham Palace. The guards were playing a lot of popular songs that included ones by Tina Turner and Eric Clapton. So I imagine they have a good varied set list.

Creator of a genre
Musical enabler
A master of circumstances
A harbinger of discovery.

To find the end
'Tis an invitation.
Thus, a new beginning mayst now commence.
I shalt see thee on the other side.
