Simply gorgeous!!
Love it.

Yeah that ticks the right boxes for me except no musical opportunities to play it.
I know it would be a serious challenge to achieve, but it would be interesting if the octave strings could have a separate output to the regular strings. I'm thinking of the sound that is on a lot of the Wailers tracks where the bass lines are also mirrored on the guitar.
Like this.
Maybe would need a separate eq and an octave pedal to lift the output pitch to get the right separation.

Cough... cough... I'm dying.... :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Deep breaths, If you are lusting after that bass, you still have vast numbers of notes left to play. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🥳🥳🥳
-
Lovely!
-
Well, that's not too bad looking.......
Peter (who is tempted to go to the fat-string side right now)
-
It's gorgeous.

What does S1 ready mean? Does the 5 pin do anything? What do all the controls do if there are no filters?
I doubt the seller would know which is why I'm asking here :)
-
Most likely it is Anniversary electronics + master volume :-) (Prepped for Series)
-
Sold - I was thinking about it but I took too long. I would like to get an 8 sting, but never tried one. I do have a 12 string guitar.
-
Thanks FC Bass!
I do own an instrument with Anniversary electronics which I like. So purchased the bass. I have a full stereo rig for my Series basses so I may go for the S1 mod later, but we'll see how it goes and how often I use it in a band situation.
-
Awesome, congrats!
Master volume is a great addition to the package, I use it on a couple of songs in our list for a fade out.
First I thought the extra switch was for side leds, but it looks like it has the standard side dots?
If so it's most likely the mono/stereo switch for the 1/4 jack.
-
yeah i thought aboot this one for a minute. my bandmates freak out when i pop the strings on my 5-string fretted basses, i'd love to see the reaction if i showed up to rehearsal with an 8-string. but alas most of my stuff is drop tuned to accommodate aging vocal cords and besides that it's medium scale 😮. 'nuff said. i do like the bass string on the bottom like my exploiter 8 was. if it's stereo the then it should be killer if ya use it that way.
good luck to all!

Congratulations, beautiful bass

Please bless us with some photos when you get it all squared away, Please :D
-
And a gig report when you get on stage with that beauty.
-
The bass arrived today and it's a beauty. Not a nick or a scratch I can see anywhere. Only sign that it isn't brand new is some of the gold in the logo has worn off the neck pickup.
And to my absolute delight there was an extra unslotted 8-string bridge in the case! Not sure why, perhaps if I want to swap the position of the octave strings from below to above?
Monsterous sound as expected, time to build a new set of calluses :)
-
Fabulous , photos please :D :D :D
-
Congrats!
If possible, could you post a picture of the components that lower the Voltage from the 5-pin? (if there are any)
-
I guess like me you would like to consider modifying non series basses to use the 5 pin.
-
Yup, would be very helpful with quick bass change onstage :-)
-
I agree about the quick change from a Series bass. Having the 5-pin definitely reduces my interest in upgrading this bass to a Series. It's dead quiet already and pretty intiutive to adjust. Master volume is also really nice.
I hope these pics help - if there's not enough resolution DM me with a place I can drop a really hi-res file and I can dig out my Canon and reshoot? Also included a pic of that cool spare bridge.
-
When I ordered my Custom, I specified Anniversary electronics with a 5-pin. I think I remember Mica saying that the Anniversary electronics could handle the voltage of the 5 pin with no issues.
You may want to ask her to be sure. It was a long time ago. 25 years!

I had a Starfire bass with Anniversary electronics, master volume and five pin. Alembic is currently building me an Anniversary harness with five pin that I plan to put in 76-582.
-
Thanx!
The only thing I spot is a capacitor, looks like everything is tucked in very tight. (could be something hidden in the shrinktube(s))
I have seen enough, more detailed pictures would require pulling things out and I would strongly recommend against that.
When the time comes, I'll contact the mothership and ask for a couple of prewired 5-pin connectors.
Also will require heavy routing, IIrc -at least in my Elan- the battery is where the 5-pin would go. With the Spoilers it will be less drastic, at least no need to relocate the battery :-)
Interesting bridges :-) (and indeed very cool you got two) No threads on the octave string saddle rods, but looks to have bolts and nuts? From the picture it looks like you can just slide them into place?
Serial number is 20 lower than my Elan, they must have seen each other @ the mothership :-) (10H14105)

I zoomed in on that picture and I think the adjustment screw and guide rod are arranged vertically instead of side by side like normal, so the guide rod is on top on the octave strings. The adjustments are at the opposite sides too. Clever way to fit all of that in a tiny space.
-
Ah, I see it now also :-) Alembic engineering ftw!
-
VERY interesting.
I don’t see a thread for holding the higher-octave string saddle in position. Interesting bridges :-) (and indeed very cool you got two) No threads on the octave string saddle rods, but looks to have bolts and nuts? From the picture it looks like you can just slide them into place?

Very cool.
I’m confused, don’t see a thread on the adjustment screw for holding the higher-octave string saddle in position.

Look at the D strings saddle - I see threads for the adjuster on the octave string saddle peeking out on the left of the guide rod. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
Also, look for the adjuster ends and the anchor (locking nut) ends of the adjusters. They are visible, on opposite sides.

Yes! Thank you.
