I may have a scrap of brass plate in my shop that would be large enough for a battery compartment cover... I could use the one on #621 as a model and come up with a decent replacement. I'll check when I'm back in there this afternoon.
You did a nice job restoring that one Rob. It needed help.

Greg
You don't like the sparkle on the current plate? :o
-
;D
It is unique.
-
I like the battery cover as is!

No sir Brian... that's gotta' go.
I hope to have a replacement battery compartment cover for 76-582 made later today... my scrap piece was just a shade too small so I'm make a hardware store run in a few minutes.
-
RV_bass, I sent you a communication of interest. If you did not see it, please contact me Sir.
Best Wishes :)

I couldn't (quickly) get a brass plate in the thickness I wanted so I have improvised... here's a maple/purpleheart/brass laminate battery compartment cover, chamfered and beveled. Mostly I just wanted to see if it could be done.
I fitted it with a little block of adhesive foam to hold the batteries firmly in place as well, and test-fit it onto 77-621, a close relative to 76-582 here.

Wow, that looks great!

Nice.

Filled in for a rock band today, which is a departure from my normal jazz band. It was a total blast, and I must say, rock bands play a lot louder than jazz bands 😎
I used this bass on this gig today and it was fantastic! So, I’m putting it on hold. I will reinstall the Fat Boys that Greg provided (thanks, Greg!), and I ordered an Anniversary harness with five pin that I’m waiting for and hope arrives soon. Those added components will really make this a great bass 😊
-
Good call keeping this one Rob. 👍 I think Anniversary electronics with those FatBoys is as close to Series electronics as you can get without the headaches of dealing with 50 year-old glitchy electronics. As I was saying on another thread, those things sounded pretty darn good in my other Series bass before I sent it off for new pickups and upgrades.
-
Good plan Rob!
And Greg; nice work on the battery cover!
-
I just bought a Series guitar, so I’m going to put this bass back up for sale to help offset the cost. It will have the AXY pickups in it. It’s really a great bass. Please let me know if you are interested. Thanks

Full description at the top of this post. It also includes the pan preamp (new). $4300 shipped, which is a fair price for this bass. Thanks.

Great bass, hoping someone here would be interested
-
Is there any reason this can't be restored to a Series 1?
-
It can be easily restored to a Series bass if someone is inclined to do so.
-
I would sell the body, no pickups or electronics, for $3500 if anyone is interested.

Now there is a possibility I hadn't considered... what if someone out there had a Series bass that's body or more likely, neck was trashed? Like irreparably, gotta' cut the wings off and make another. Well, here's your solution; 582 is in fine structural condition. If I've read right, Rob's had it refretted too. If you have a full set of Series guts to go in there, or you don't mind the price and the hang in the waiting room for a new set... well shoot, why not?
Me, I think a little bit different... Rob already has a V-P-F/Q-3 circuit in there. I can count on the fingers of one hand the gigs where I needed anything more than that (exactly what's on my Persuader) If anything, I'd add rotary Bass and Treble controls to it, and have myself a vintage Alembic with East-Meets-West electronics. And I'd have already done it, if she were medium-scale. Yessir... I'd have me a birdseye maple topped Classic to go with the Chain bass. I just ain't got the arms for it.
There's a lot of ways you could go here, none of them necessarily wrong. You have to remember where this one started from a couple years ago.
-
Thanks, Greg, I am hoping someone here will buy it, it is a great sounding bass. $3500 as is with the current essence electronics. I’ll split the shipping.
-
And it's re-fretted? Wow. Reminds me of David Hoods bass. Someone should grab this.
-
I should note that if I get the Anniversary electronics that I ordered and decide to install them in this bass, then the price will go up substantially.
-
How about just the body for $3300 shipped (empty, no pickups or electronics)?
