Title: '75 00-18 Martin SF Bay area
Post by: edwardofhuncote on June 04, 2025, 09:36:39 AM
I saw this listed in the (Unofficial) Martin Guitar Forum classifieds section... happened to notice it was in the Bay area Craigslist. If anyone local is looking for a small body, this one looks like it's in pretty decent shape, especially for 50 years old.

$2,200 looks like a great price for such an old Martin in great shape. Not really familiar with that market, but looks like a screaming deal?

Yeah, I had a similar reaction, Brian. The hell it can't. 🤣

Just to complete the pitch, there ain't much finer than a short-scale Martin. I'm sitting on the porch playing my 00-18 Custom Shop this very evening, staring down the barrel of 56, having been born to this crazy world in June of 1969. Shoot... we hadn't even faked the moon landing yet. 🙄🏳

*I don't know how it is market-wise on the West Coast, (Bill TGO?) but that guitar wouldn't last a week at that price in Virginia. We'd list it at a minimum of $2500 in the store. In the local Craigslist, I'd make a polite offer of $2k and go a little more.

Actually, based on the description of condition, that's a rather high price.  Over $2000 if in excellent condition.  This one is probably less than $1600 in value.  The Blue Book shows a high of $1800-$2250, with an average of $1075-$1350.   I got all excited a few years ago when I picked up my '71 D12-20 for $500.  Still an excellent deal, but it's only worth about $1000, not the astronomical amount I expected for a 50+ year old Martin.

Well there you go. Where I am, that guitar would sell easily next weekend.

With a mid-70s Martin, there’s a reasonable chance you’d have to spend some money getting the saddle properly repositioned. So the price is a bit high considering. Unless that work has been done already.
