Title: My first Alembic
Post by: kreinert on March 06, 2025, 04:05:25 PM
Hi all,
Can't thank everyone on this forum enough for the help getting my first Alembic to my front door!  Received today, 1991 Europa 5-string in near mint condition.  SN 91 U6695, and I have it in the queue for history/SN lookup.

I had been researching the different models and looking around for 5 or 6 months, almost purchased a few along the way, but this one checks all the boxes of condition, price, location, seller, etc.  It was suggested that I post on the "wanted and wishing" page once I narrowed down what I wanted, so I posted in early February.  Several interesting options came along over the past month, but none felt like the right fit until a kind man from California reached out and said this Europa was ready to be in the hands of someone that will play it more.  I'm now the 3rd owner, both 1st and 2nd owners hardly played it, and only in the home studio.

My main musical outlet is a Grateful Dead cover band called "Easy Jim" out of Crested Butte and Gunnison, Colorado.  We play over 140 songs from the GD canon around Colorado, and are starting to get into quality medium-sized venues like Belly Up in Aspen, 10 Mile Music Hall in Frisco, Sheridan Opera House in Telluride, Cervantes in Denver, and Fox Theater in Boulder to name a few.  I've been playing a Modulus Q5 for 6 years, and love it, but I could tell after the first 15 minutes of playing the Europa that it's the "next level" of craftsmanship and sound.

Looking forward to continued conversations, thanks again!

Congrats, Kevin!  That's a real pretty instrument you got there.  Play it in good health.  But I also must warn you - Alembics can be quite addictive!

Bill, tgo

I have to echo what bill posted. The europa was my first 5 string alembic and those bass/treble switches are a great asset for live playing. Enjoy that bass and welcome to the world that is alembic.
