Hey all, as of a couple of hours ago I am the owner-in-waiting of a '97 Stanley Clarke Signature Standard (by way of eBay auction)- my first alembic. Last time I played one of these was in about 1980, and I can still remember it like it was yesterday.
I should get it next Wednesday or Thursday - just in time for a weekend of gigs at the toronto beaches international jazz festival.
I can hardly wait!

Congratulations. Go easy on yourself - we all make mistakes...LOL

Huh!
Be prepared...your new bass is better at what it does than you are at what you do; no disrespect, it's a fact. While I've definitely slipped in recent years, my Alembic is still kicking my butt after almost a month.
Better bring a backup (grin).

whats the big mistake?,,,,what the fact that someone's (the bass)loss and your gain?

Keavin,
No, the bass will be great; I just have a sense that this could be the beginning of an obsession.

Where do obsessions go at the end of a show, when they're looking for a bite to eat? (LOL)
Congrats, and enjoy your bass.

I got mine about 2 years ago now, and I know my bass playing has improved significantly. Probably because I love playing it so much and practice more than i did with my other bass I love the sound I can make with my SC.
I've been looking for a 5 string bass for a while now and have not found anything that I really like the sound of . So it means I have to save my pennies till the pounds add up to another alembic.
Once you have one of these basses there is no looking back.

Congrats. May it bring you many years of enjoyment.
I have a Stanley Clarke Signature Deluxe, and a Series 1 short scale and I love them. Best instruments I've ever played.

Congrats Hankster, may you be have many years of incredible tone!
When and where are you playing this weekend? What is your band's name. I will be down at the beaches trying to make my way through the crowds, so I will try be there when you play.... to see your new bass of course :-)

I'm in two bands at the beaches - the Advocats (a 20 piece swing band) and the Tokyo Giants (an 11 piece R&B/funk band). Advocats are Thursday evening, Giants Friday and Saturday, both at the corner of Queen and Bellefair right by the church. The Advocats play facing Queen St.; the Giants play on the steps of the church facing into Bellefair to create some dancing space. Both start at 7:00 PM or thereabouts. I hope the bass arrives in time! See you there!
