Thanks BeenDown,  been looking on the sites as well.  Europa seems to be more in my budget, but the ones I've seen are either over-seas (looking to stay closer to home unless there's something worth the extra cost/effort), or over-priced due to seller costs involved on Reverb.  Most of the Mark Kings are either brand-new or out of my range, or both.  If you find your dream Series II, keep me in mind.

yeah i was thinking out loud.  maybe i shouldn't.  i've owned both europas and MKDs.  i gotta say the balance K body is the shizzle if you're playing standing up.  i currently have both an SII and an MKD.  they trade off on band days which for me are 3 hrs/day 2wice a week.  the MKD with the balance K body wins for comfort, the SII wins for sound (hands down!), it'd be kinda nice to have both in the same package.  i hadda buy a headless tto save my shoulder and back, so now i use the alembics about 25% of the time when i wanna sound good.  since i'm now up to 6 basses, something(s) would have to go elsewise it'll start looking like a well-heeled pawn shop at castle BeenDown.  pretty sure i'm gonna hafta let something go anyways, i jsut dunno hwat  ???

fyi the top on this europa is crazy.  too bad it's overseas.  i've done overseas.  it's kinda nerve-wracking.

Saw that one.  It is beautiful and pretty much what I'm looking for, just wish it wasn't in Korea.

My 5 string Europa is still up for grabs though it is across the pond in the UK.

trivia fun fact:  i was the original owner of this instrument so if it gets repatraited back to the USofA it might count as extra karma points for somebody.  plus maybe then i can come over and we can reminisce about our glory days together long gone by.  jsut sayin'

Beautiful bass, jazzyvee.  I'm trying to dig deep to see what personal connection I have to "VM" and am drawing a blank.  Holding out hope for something in the US for now, but will reach out if inspiration hits me.

Been getting some interesting emails about basses for sale.  Still nothing that checks all the boxes.  After some good advice and consideration, I'm also looking at Series basses, but 5 strings seem to be harder to come by.  Still eyeing Mark King Deluxe and Europa.

Any other places online to look?  I check Reverb, TalkBass, Craigslist, Ebay, LowEnd Bass Shop, Eddie's Guitars, Bass Central, Luthier's Access Group, and Chicago Music Exchange.

Thanks to everyone that's chipped in on the conversation!

1991 Europa arrived to Colorado safely from California today.  Only 30 minutes into playing around...

Oh

My

God!

Thanks to everyone for the help, support, and advice.  Can't wait to keep digging deeper.  Already understand why everyone here is an addict.

Congratulations! Pretty bass and I bet it sounds and plays great.  Play it in good health. When you get a chance you should start a showcase thread…meanwhile play on.

Might be a good idea to register your ownership with alembic here.
