Title: California Wildfires
Post by: jazzyvee on January 07, 2025, 11:10:05 PM
Just caught the morning news about speading wildfires in the Los Angeles California. I hope all you guys, families and loved ones who live in that area are safe.

I've worked outside in all kinds of weather for most of of this life, faced all kinds of natural disasters, just part of the job... but of all weather conditions that exist on this great spinning ball of molten iron, I HATE WIND. Couple that with FIRE, and you have two very destructive forces. Water can tear stuff up too, but wind and fire... bad news.

Y'all take care out there.

The winds are horrendous. I know several people who have lost their homes overnight. There's so many people there, even in the hills. But the real worry if the wind blows embers down on the valley/basin floor. The population density is mad, so we hope that the weather cooperates and the fire fighters are able to get a handle on this destructive fire.

Leland Sklar checked in from Pasadena on FB. He is fine for now but stated he hasn’t slept since it started. Wanders the yard for errant embers and the particulate in the air is bad….was coughing a bit.

Thanks for this.  Been listening to some of his recent work with Lari Basilio.  Hope he stays safe.

Unfortunately the Santa Ana winds have returned. I feel for the folks who have lost everything and those uncertain if they will end up being in the line or not. I have family in SoCal east of the Eaton fire. So far they have been fortunate that the fires have not made it their way. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I know what it is like to see the fire line cross the ridge with only a highway between it and your neighborhood. All while standing duty with a garden hose hoping it is enough to keep the embers from catching on your house or landscaping. It is not a feeling I would wish on anybody.

Here is the site I've been using to track the Eaton fire, which is closing in on the one person I have in SoCal. She is safe for now.
