Title: Neck pickup mystery
Post by: DistillaMatto on December 07, 2024, 06:03:31 AM
I played live today but when we did the soundcheck this morning I noticed the low e-string was slapping against something. I thought it was broke for a moment then I noticed the neck pick up was loose and bouncing against it. I looked and there were no screws. I looked in the case and both the screws were there. Luckily someone had a phillips head and I was able to screw them back in. I don't know how they got loose. Maybe they were loose for a while and I most have turned the case over and they fell out. It seemed like some one snuck in and sabbotaged my bass but it was with me all of the time.

A good practice is to “snug” those screws.   Now if you really (please forgive me) slappa dat bass.  Well those screws may loosen a bit.  🤷🏻‍♂️

Ah. I've started to slap a lot more lately. That's probably it. Thank you.

I've seen this once before. A practically unplayed fretless Distillate I got shipped to me. (coincidentally a few years ago last Thanksgiving week...) The neck pickup *fell out* of its rout in transit, and was clinging to the strings. The screws were loose in the seam of the case. I had no explanation and neither did the guy I bought it from. No harm done, I just cinched them back up.

Only *snug* them, don't tighten those outer corners. Or the little *snap* of sadness ye shall hear.  ;)

I wonder how that old bass is doing...?

Be glad it was not a Boeing instead of a bass...

This happened to me too! Played a gig with my Stanley Clarke Signature Squared in Jack London Squared in Oakland, CA. After the gig, found something missing! Can't remember if it was 1 or 2 - went back to the scene of the loss but didn't find anything - fortunately, the guy at my local hardware found an exact replacement - later confirmation of measurements - gotta remember to give screws a tug every now and again!

Great PSA.
Going to check my screw snugness this afternoon.

My (new) grandson is coming over this afternoon.  His dad is getting the Distillate when I leave and he (Oliver) will most likely get it next.

Side note.  It was our first face to face yesterday.  He is 7+ months old.  He came through the back gate, saw me, smiled and I can’t remember ever falling so fast and hard in love. 🥰
