It's a real something, but not Alembic. It's possible someone that used to work here made it, but it certainly was not "developed in conjunction with Alembic sound"
Dad's comments were amusing:
I have never seen this before.
I would never use cheap meters or knobs like that.
That's not how we dealt with the anti-rotation tabs on the potentiometers.
Transformer on the exterior? No.
Nice piano hinge.
I'll add that the font is not what we ever used for our products, whether one-off, short-run, or full production. I can also see lots of clues in the wire dressing that reveal is wasn't something we made here. Also, I can't think of one electronic product that was made here that didn't bear the name ALEMBIC on it - usually on the back and almost always would include the city we were located in when it was made.

Hey Mica, I didn't think it was the real deal, it is a little
too convoluted looking and lacking in any intuitiveness.
Thanks for clearing it up and providing an example of
Ron's dry humor. I may have to use "nice piano hinge"
in any poor taste situation.
Also, is there something I did wrong with the way the
link came out? I'm not the most tech-ish guy around.

Sometimes links come out small and I've never figured out the conditions that make it happen. We blame anomalies like that on cosmic rays. ;D
I will say the "Nice piano hinge" was a compliment from him - he really loves a good hinge!
Someone sent me photos of this item maybe a year(?) ago and I pretty much told them what I posted here.

... Also, is there something I did wrong with the way the link came out?
Before posting (or after posting and spotting something wrong), go to the preview edit page and click on the last icon in the editing choices; it's the one with the blue arrow that says toggle view. This will show any formatting in the post. In your case, when the link was copied over it included a "size" format. I deleted both ends of the size formatting, and now it looks normal.

Thanks, Dave!

Which is more than can be said for the item in question.....
Peter (will take this oppopetunity to say "You're our hero, Dave!")
