Title: Nice 1980 LSB4 in Japan
Post by: tkotmk42 on October 31, 2024, 07:12:47 AM
This one came up today.
https://www.digimart.net/cat03/shop1484/DS09264982/

Sold thru Ishibashi at Shinjuku branch.  Shop is legit.

This is one of the few with the purple heart laminate between the neck and the body.  It's not common to see this in Alembic and everytime I see this, it reminds me of Aria Pro basses I used to have ;)
I wonder why this feature is so rare.....

Looks in good nick for such an old bass.

that's $7948 USD by my calculations. sounds like aftermarket power supply and a non-alembic bridge pickup.   those aren't trivial $, i'd ask for a discount.  a big one.  at least it's free shipping.  nice bass otherwise.

The way I interpret the translation is that it's a more recently made DS-5 (by Alembic) and not an aftermarket.  Plus, I think "Sleek Elite" is an actual Alembic Dealer in Japan so maybe they're just saying they did the work replacing the bridge pickup.

Worth clarifying those questions though!

Yup, as Jimmy said, they replaced the bridge pickup at the autherized distributer in Japan (Sleek Elete, I've met the owner and had some dealing with him, very nice guy).  Giving bit more authenticity to the replacment.  And DS-5 is NOT the vintage original, rather a newly procured from the mothership.

リンクは小さいですね!

One thing I have figured out about the forum here - if I just make my post (with links, etc.) from the initial page, it's fine, but if I go to the more advanced editor and start inserting things, it goes haywire!
