The greatest rhythm guitarist ever, the esteemed Mr. Robert Hall Weir, is 77 today; let's dance!

I'd add innovative to that though one could argue that innovative is subsumed under "greatest."

I'd also add that between 1976 and 1994 I never saw him have a bad night.
I will also add that Bobby's style is very informed by jazz and I know a bunch of jazz guitarists who play very similarly when comping. He definitely put in the work to learn chord shapes and voice leading. I've played with a number of guitarists doing the Bobby parts but none of them seem to have the knowledge and skills that Bobby has. To learn that, don't just learn Bobby parts, learn McCoy Tyler, Motown horn parts, and the inner voices of string quartets.
I'm a big fan.
