Title: Fender Rhodes at a good price
Post by: gtrguy on October 04, 2024, 04:44:40 PM
Anyone want a good deal on a Fender Rhodes? The MKII is like the MKI but with plastic keys instead of ivory. They would need to pack this heavy beast quite well, as the are hefty.

I played with a guy with a Hammond B3.   A Fender Rhodes is a lightweight!

hehehehe

It takes 4 or 5 strong folks to move a b3 (plus all the food and beer). One strong person can move a rhodes if they don't mind the back pain.
However, ain't nothing compared to having the entire band float a grand piano around the room!

Guy I worked part-time for in Nashville collected B-3's. We'd knock off work some afternoons to go pick one up he found a Craigslist deal on. Or sometimes a Leslie cabinet. Yeah, them things were heavy on my 26 year-old back. I seem to remember he had Fender Rhodes in his studio too though.

This same cat ran a business... we built custom road cases. One of the strangest ones we ever built was for a Hammond. It was on a casterboard, and had a clamshell lid, but the end of the case opened up and a ramp for the thing to roll down folded out. Fair to say, he'd been a roadie, learned a little about working smarter...

The bitch about moving Hammonds is that they have to remain upright.  You can’t lay them on their back - the oil spills.  The guy I played with had cut out a bunch of the wood frame to reduce the weight a bit.   Still a bear!

I had a beautiful suitcase rhodes. Sounded like heaven! I miss it but it was a pain to move around.
