It's been 7 years now since the last Gathering......could there be another one in 2024? Gathering XI - "It Goes To Eleven!"
-
Count me in if you're planning to do one. I got two:
Europa 34 scale bubinga
Mark King 32 Coco Bolo with stinger tail.
I'll reach out to my Alembic brothers to make sure they are aware.
-
Indeed , mine vote in ascending exponential noteworthy inclination ,doth I project manifestation toward a target goal of ALEMBIC GATHERING XI . As needed such support 'tis available in various capacities as per case of how I can help to make it a reality in support of our Alembic community .
-
I reached out to my bass brothers of the Alembic order and all 3 of them would be game. Working on getting a venue and a date hammered out late Aug. If anyone has a place in mind, I’m all up for suggestions.
-
I was able to secure a Location in San Pablo at my church, it’s plenty big enough To accommodate everyone, and we can be as loud as we want. The only caveat would be No alcohol or tobacco. I spoke to my drummer and he is on board as well to lay down some beats. Best days would be August 17 or the 31st. Time is moderately flexible, from about 12 to 3, 3 to 6 more or less.
-
Alembicians, the time and place for the gathering has been established. It will be @
4351 Hilltop Dr
El Sobrante, CA 94803
United States
31 August 2024. Running from 12am-3pm. For venue details text me at 650 443 8510.

Do you perhaps mean 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.? Expecting people to show up at midnight might be a little ambitious! Have you arranged for amps, both bass and guitar, drums, and PA?
Bill, tgo
-
Yes, I meant 12 noon. Not midnight (although it would be fun:)) our end time is also flexible. nonetheless, as of now, all that has been committed are:
5 primary bass players
9 alembic basses
1 swr SM 900, 4x12, 1x18
1 Mesa boogie head
1 drummer
1 banjo player
1 electric guitar and amp
Still lacking in tracking down a PA. If you know of someone that has one and is willing to bring it, please let me know.
-
PA and mixer secured
-
T - 7 days till our gathering. Everything is basically set. We have the venue, people and gear.
I had been asked about possibly adding a pot-luck feature to the gathering, but handling food and instruments, can be cumbersome. Thus, I'll be providing drinks and light snacks, and if interested, after the gathering, we can head over to my place and fire up a BBQ.
Be sure to spread the word to other Alembic acquaintances of the gathering. The more the merrier. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions 650 443 8510. -A.J.
-
I expect to be there with at least a couple of guitars and an amp. Thanks for organizing! How are you fixed for mics and mic stands?
Bill, tgo
-
Regarding amplification, we’ll have:
8 channel PA system
2 sturdy bass amps
1 1x12 guitar amp
1 SM58 mic and stand
If you have extra mics and stands or a guitar amp, that may come in handy.
-
Hope everything goes well. Don't forget pictures. :)
-
Is there a count of people who have responded that they will be in attendance? There seems to be minimal response on this thread. Will there be at least one other guitar player and another vocalist besides me, necessitating a second guitar amp and mic?
Bill, tgo
-
I’ll be there in thought… recalling 4 x 21’s at Chicago’s Gathering. 😀
-
I also put out a post on the Alembic Facebook page and between all the getting the word out via all the platforms. We have 7 Alembicians are a hard yes and 3 potentials that will probably not know till the last minute. 1 drummer, 1 banjo player, 1 guitar player (that’d be you Bill) I plan on bringing a small 1x12 guitar amp that’ll be loud enough to keep up with the drums. It’s fairly versatile with sounds, but if your particular about your guitar sound, feel free to bring a personal guitar amp. If you bring an extra mic, that’ll make 2 mics that I’m tracking.

I went back to my original post here and saw the date as the day before I woke up partially paralyzed! Yup, May 3rd I woke up and my left arm was partially paralyzed. Fast forward 3 months post op and I still have limited mobility with the left arm. Conducting PT to get it back. I can play using my thumb to walk the rest of the fingers down the neck but cannot play upright (Classico) yet. I was planning to drive down from the PNW like I did in 2017 for the last Gathering. While now cleared to drive, I feel I cannot do two days strait in the drivers seat. I'm really bummed about it but I wont make it in 2024.
Oh, the cause of the nerve damage? Arthritis in C1-C6 vertebrae. C5 is where the arm nerve bundles leave the spine. Fast surgical removal of C5 limited the damage. I have 4 screws in my neck now and am waiting for bone regeneration to replace the removed vertebrae. I am fortunate this kinda happened as the arthritis was also pushing against my spinal cord which would have been undetected until paralysis from the neck down!
Anyway...have a great time y'all....I hope to be to next years Gathering......My goals are to get back on my motorcycle and to keep playing Bass.
-
Hoping the physical therapy is a complete success.
And yes, you probably don't need to be doing a lot of driving right now.
-
Gary,
I deeply admire your love and dedication to music. Best not to push it till you're fully recovered to do so. Hope you will be able to make it next time around, I'll ensure to organize another Gathering insomuch no more than a year passes by without a Gathering coming to pass.
-
We are a solid go for tomorrow. I'll be there an hour early at 11am to get things set up so we can jump right in. Our end time is also flexible. Hope to see everyone there :)
-
Just got back a little while ago from the Gathering. A fine time was had by all. A big thanks to AJ for organizing. It was great to see some old Alembic friends and meet some new ones, too. Sam took a bunch of pics, so I expect that will be some visual memorialization showing up on these pages soon.

I'm glad you guys got together. Sorry I couldn't make it. Hoping to host again next year, found a couple good spots near Alembic and then we can field trip for a group tour.
-
Good to hear the gathering was a success!

here's a photo that I took

Oooh.

If that happened I'd make the effort to hump my stuff out there. 2009 is as a long time ago and I'd love to jam with and see everyone in Cali!

I would like to inquire as to why no photos were ever shown from the 8/31/24 Gathering event XI ? ;D
-
I swear, there was a picture posted, Wolf... it seems to have turned into a small icon now, with a note that reads "may be an image of 4 people and guitar". Probably another one of those things I don't even want to understand.
-
The photo was only a link to someplace on the internet, and it would appear to be unavailable or inaccessible now.
-
Perhaps someone who attended would be so kind to post some photos , please and thank you . ;D
-
Here's a few I took. This was before some of the higher-end basses ( and players) showed up. There were some of those short, skinny- stringed instruments there too, played by William Panzer Esq. Hopefully these pictures show up and stay put...
-
Thanks for the photos !

That looks like hella fun!
