Title: Anyone Use Line Array for Stage Vocal Monitor?
Post by: lbpesq on December 03, 2023, 11:46:08 AM
I have a line array speaker (Harbinger MLS900, Musician’s Friend Stupid Deal of the Day) that I'm using for vocals in my rehearsal studio. My Dead band (2 guitars, bass, drums, and keys) is playing a street fair next Saturday and we have to bring our own PA. I have a pair of Yamaha DBR15s for mains. I have floor wedges, but I was wondering if I can use the Line Array for stage monitoring instead of the wedges. It would certainly be more convenient with easier set up. We’re only putting vocals through the PA. Anyone tried doing this? Best place to put the Line Array? Since we're using the Yamahas for FOH, we can avoid putting the Line Array behind us as it won’t need to double as FOH, and avoid the attendant feedback issues. Any experiences, suggestions, or ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

I’ve done it Bill, with various bands including a 10 piece R&B outfit. It worked fine for us.

Where did you place the array tower?

To the side, towards the front, washing back across the stage diagonally worked best. I’ve also placed the array behind the band. But not so optimal.

Well, I wound up putting the line array front and center, a few feet in front of us, facing the band.   Worked great.

These things are really useful tools. I wish they’d had them 40 years ago. I’d probably still be on the road.
