Title: New wood day at the house o'BeenDown
Post by: BeenDown139 on November 30, 2023, 05:00:24 AM
that could mean a lotta things, i suppose.  in this case it's a beater breedlove ABG i found hanging at the luthier's shop where i had to take the mighty MKD in for some expensive body work after sustaining a pretty serious humdinger from getting slummed around the underbelly of the small-time denver music scene in a cheapo GC gig bag.  i know someofya'll are doin that, so be warned!

i wanted something i could just pick up, drag out to the patio and work my hands out on in the weak winter sun and not worry about the dog or myself destroying it.

she's been rode hard and put up wet.  the electronics are destroyed but i didn't buy it to plug in anyways.  at least she had a case.  $400 including a new set of strings.  haven't named her yet.   sounds a helluva better than what passes for an ABG at GC these days.

lookin for a 5-string electric beater that can absorb a bullet next.  gonna be playing east colfax soon if ya catch my drift.

The only ABG I ever played that didn't have a flabby open E was a Breedlove; cedar over mahogany, something like BMJ350-cm4 (one or more of those alphanumeric figures could well be incorrect; I was just killing time in a store until rush hour was over, and it's been a goodly number of years now.  What model is yours?

i tink it's one of these:

the E string's got plenty of snap, as mr. quimm so aptly demonstrated. ::)
wasn't really looking for one, picked it up, played it, liked it, pulled the trigger.  might coulda done better, but i don't mind supporting the shop that works on my axes.  useta have a martin B1 ABG.  hardly louder than a whisper but knockout sound.  i miss that bass :-(  this one's not bad.

might be steppin on someone's toes here but i don't think any ABG is really more than a novelty.  about yanked the strings off of this one tryin to get it loud enuff for a play-along.  gettin ready to take it out on the veranda with the pooch, put a good old fashioned buzz on and see what drops out.

tried to get a good recording of this thing in a play along.  the sound i hear from the driver's seat is totally different than hwat comes out the front, apparently.  upstairs, it's not bad.  out front it's all fret buzz and string rattle.  so novelty it is.  gonna wait for a warmer day, see how the nieghbors like it.

Too bad the electronics are "destroyed". A friend of mine has a Breedlove ABG, it sounds really nice through a small Ampeg combo for acoustic gigs.

The only ABG I've ever heard that really works as an acoustic instrument is an Earthwood. Yeah, it also sounds different out front than it does to the player - it actually projects some real bass! I didn't realize how loud mine was until I heard someone else play it. But you won't find one of those in the local GC priced for an impulse purchase....

Saw this cat in NYC some years back, Darin Schaffer , he was fantastic, Ovation ABG! I actually had my eye on a used one , but at that point, I didn't have the extra bread !
