Hey Everyone
My name is Ryan and I own a guitar shop that occasionally gets in some very rare pieces like this graphite neck Series I that we have currently. I have not found a ton of info on it to this point but I do know that it is exceptionally rare. I had a customer who is a member here and he suggested that I post it here and show it off. It is for sale as well so I guess DM me. I don't want to be the spam guy here...my customer told me you all would love to see this one.

I'll take it.

Drop me a line. We can work that out!

Hi Ryan,
It was great running into you last night. Looks like my plan to check this bass out at your shop tomorrow is falling through! I'll still try to get up there, even if the bass has moved on to a new home.

Just wondering if anybody know the construction details on these graphite necks. I'm guessing from the photos that the graphite is glued to mahogany down through the body, and then sandwiched on the sides with strips of walnut. Does that sound correct, or fairly close? Just curious...

Ken,
That is very close. But the graphite goes all the way through the bass all the way to the tailpiece. The wood on the front and back of the bass covers the graphite. So it is still a neck through and not a set neck.

Sure is a beauty. Do you know if it had any famous owners?
-
I have no clue about previous owners. But that bass is famous in it's own right. It starred in Alembic's brochure from 1979.
-
Congrats! That's one great addition for anyone's 'family of Alembics'.
That is the top of the list.
-
That top wood grain is cool.

Ryan, I am wondering if you can share how they addressed the finish checking/flaking issue on the graphite? I read about it in the ad, and wondered how one might do this... had a couple ideas for wet-sanding and overspray. Just curious about what was done. Looks pretty good.
