It's funny how one thing can lead to another. I've just been spinning Blue Oyster Cult's 'Some Enchanted Evening' and realised that 1. It's the first time I appeared in a recording; as one of the audience in Newcastle's City Hall where We Gotta Get Outa This Place was recorded in 1978 and 2. it's probably the first time I saw an Alembic (in the hands of Joe Bouchard) though I'll probably have been wishing he'd played a Rick as I was a huge Chris Squire fan at the time. Anyway, on a whim I googled the song and found out to my surprise that it had been written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil - a surprise because I thought Eric Burdon had written it.
However, I was sad to learn that Cynthia had passed on the 1st June. her songs have been a soundtrack throughout my life. I can't imagine there'll be anyone who hasn't heard at least half a dozen chart topping songs by Barry and Cynthia and it's hard to imagine just how many artists got their big break singing one of her lyrics; even Hansen had a top 10 hit by the duo!
Rest in Peace Cynthia.

I pulled a album out of the bins at a Goodwill outlet store a while back that I was on. Kinda makes you feel like you died and came back to earth for a visit...
