Title: Threaded Insert Glue
Post by: rv_bass on May 12, 2023, 04:06:32 AM
Can anyone suggest the proper glue to use to set a threaded insert? Thanks :)

Is the hole stripped? If it is I would use a toothpick and some titebond or gorilla wood glue to tighten the hole back up. An alternative would be to drill out the hole then glue in a dowel to hold a new hole for the insert.

If the hole is not stripped I would try a drop of superglue on the outside threads. I think that might be enough to keep it in place as long as you do not over tighten the screw. This method should also allow you to break the bond should you ever need to remove the insert.

The only other thing I can think of is drop of epoxy on the outside threads but this would be permanent.

You shouldn’t need any glue for installation unless the hole is stripped or too large.  The reference to CA glue in Mica’s instructions is for making the installation tool.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  The hole must be stripped since the screw is in the insert and the whole unit moves in and out of the hole.  I will try a dab of glue and see if that secures it in the hole. Thanks!

Titebond is a good wood glue
