We discussed this one here a good while back when it was last for sale...

Here's a thread where it turned up for sale-
https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=24230.msg242239#msg242239
And an old serial number lookup thread on it- https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=6080.msg66421#msg66421

kinda shows ya where things are at when a bass like that is going for $8650USD if i read it correctly. i've noticed that none of the SII's on my radar have sold since my last rambling discourse on this subject. sure glad i'm not having to sell mine right about now.
holy cow whadda bass! hope it doesn't wind up in flipsville.
so sayeth the grouchy old stoner on his way to the day's 2nd vape and soak session. gotta get ramped up for lunch afterwords...

A $1,700 jump in price in 4-years (if it actually sold for the listed Reverb price) but still not outrageous for a 97 Series II given current prices. I do agree that with the current market, stuff is hanging around a LONG time on Reverb with many way overpriced Alembics sitting there for 2 or more years. I recently sold my 93 Europa 6-string to Dan for $3500. I bought it for $3,200 purchased a new hard shell case for it, and threw in an older DS-5 (Dan, did you get it to work?). Given that I wasn’t playing it often, I felt it was a fair deal for both of us. Looking at Reverb, similar Europas (5 string not 6) are listed at prices ranging from $5,000 - $7,900. However, most have been listed for 2- or more years. I keep going back to my hypothesis that except for people finding themselves in dire circumstances (as in I lost my job, have no insurance, and my kid needs a life saving operation) no sane person (excluding flippers) really wants to get rid of an Alembic. So…they list them at exorbitant prices just to see if anyone will be foolish enough to bite on the listing and make them an offer they can’t refuse.

I haven't had a chance to look at the DS-5 yet. My Series I is still waiting for bench time.
That bass Mik has for sale is perfect! I would buy it if the funds were available.
I recently spoke with a vintage guitar dealer about a similar hypothesis and to add a point Brian's, these instruments don't take up much space and they don't need food or gas..lol BTW, I've been using the Europa for a theater gig the past three weeks. It kills!

I noticed at the time, but the humidity issue scared me

that's the hing i dont get about these dealers that have these basses listed for years at crazy prices that never sell. it's gotta cost ya money just to hold onto your inventory. not to mention the money that's hanging on the wall instead of being in the bank or invested in something else that's actually gonna show a decent return sometime in your lifetime.
i'm not in favor of not making money. if you're a dealer then yer not in it for your health i'm gonna guess so iget the markup. but i would think after holding something that's never gonna sell at the price ya got it listed for at some point yer gonna say to yerselve "maybe i should consider a reasonable offer 'cause i'm losing my shirt on this white elephant". i dunno. i'm between vape sessions so my view of reality could be skewed. gonna go fix that after this post.
myself i view these instruments as art that's meant to be played and passed on, not as an investment by a non-musician that ultimately prices actual musicians outta the market. if i wanna step on the proletariat, then i'll play the stock market.
so sayeth the soon-to-be-mood-altered old stoner in the mile high on a sunny spring morning
