Title: Custom build question
Post by: Chaspatm on March 05, 2023, 03:37:26 PM
Hi, someone asked me if you could order a custom Spyder Style bass and what would it cost. I told him to go to your website but then it got me thinking. Went up the website I'm not finding a link to customer ordering options or materials or whatever good that's why I told him to contact the web site.

Welcome Charles,

Alembic is a small family owned and operated company so if your friend has questions about a custom build the best approach is to phone them.  The rule is, there are no rules.  They can build anything you can think up.

Hi there, a few years back there was a quote generator page here but that has net been here for a while. Here is a link to the pricing index which is a guide since Alembic is a custom builder and can build your dream.

If your friend is interested in a used one, there is a spyder here.

When I ordered my custom Elan, I went through Will Gunn Guitars, an Alembic dealer.  Will has an encyclopedic knowledge of Alembic and having had many customs built for himself and his customers, knows the process thoroughly.  I can't recommend him highly enough.

Alembic is a small family company, and they stay REALLY busy and accordingly, sometimes not easy to get on the phone, so I'd recommend Will or another dealer might be an easier option.

When I ordered both of my customs I worked directly with Alembic to work out the details. These were then sent to the dealer I was going through with all of the financial details who then gave me their price quote. It can take a bit of time to get things started but once things were going they moved along pretty fast.

As to building a custom Spyder Style bass member Alan Dover had a replica of John Entwistle's Series II Spyder built so I am sure they can build whatever your friend is looking for.

One advantage of working directly with the (amazing) folks at Alembic is that, even though they CAN do anything you can think of, they've got the experience to suggest how to get what you want in a way you won't regret down the line. No one wants to make a mistake with that many zeros at the end of the cost :) and they'll always steer you right.
