Title: Stanley Clarke 5-String Guages?
Post by: BIX on February 03, 2023, 01:40:13 AM
I know Alembic made a Stanley Clarke 5-String with a high-C. What I would like to know is - what string gauges did Stanley use on it. I believe he used a super light Rotosound "Funkmaster" set on his four strings (30, 50, 70, 90) - but what gauge did he use for the high-C string?

Any help would be very much appreciated - Thanks!

Is that for EADG tuning? I ask because I *think* he tunes his Alembics ADGC, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, I have a couple of basses with a high C string - 5 string, 32'' scale Warwick Corvette, and 6 string, 34'' scale Peavey TL-Six. I've been using a 30 C with 45, 65, 85, 105 and a 130 low B for the 6-er.

Yeah, that would be for EADG - I didn't realize he tuned to ADGC (I'm not really a Stanley fan per se, I just know he used those FM66's at some point), but again the question remains as to what gauge the high 5-th string (C or F?) is on his five stringers. I am curious because I like using FM66's (30-90), but trying to find a high C when your G is .030 is kind of difficult. I've seen .028's, and even a .025 - anything lighter than that is plain (not wound) and I don't wan't that.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks.

I found the answer here: https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2012/08/01/alembic-unveils-stanley-clarke-signature-deluxe-5-string-bass/

Not sure why that didn't come up in my search results the first time....

EADGC (.090-.075-.060-.035-.025)

Thanks All!

So those are probably Alembic strings?

BTW, apparently Mr. Clarke tunes his 5-string BEADG now  ;D
