For sale: Skylark guitar in excellent condition, just missing a backplate screw and thread insert, otherwise would be mint condition. Bought it from a club member to try out. Beautiful guitar, but my other guitars are long scale (25.5”) and the Skylark is 24.75” with a narrower neck. Turns out I prefer the longer wider necks. Selling at what I bought it for $4000.

My respect to you for not flipping it for personal gain.

Thanks, Danno. :)

After listening to this maybe I’ll just keep it! Quite nice…
Mica, is there any difference between the pickups in a 2005 Skylark and a new Skylark with the gold lettering on the pickups?
-
Very little. The newer Skylark has the slightly longer HGR pickup which allows for wider bridge spacing. The aperture (width) of the pickup is the same, and it has the same number of turns. But the new pickups are a little too long for the old routs. Should be nearly indistinguishable tonewise.
-
Although, like the other topic with bass pickups, the newer ones are in a shell, so the coil is closer to the top than one made in a silicone mold. So the older ones will have to be closer to the strings for the coil to be the same distance as the newer ones.

Thanks, Mica, I think I might keep this, it really is a beautiful guitar!

Moderators, please mark as unavailable. Thanks.

I think you are making the right decision - unless you sell it to fund another Alembic guitar!

I agree, good call. 8)

Bill said don’t sell it unless I buy another Alembic. Well, I bought another Alembic, so I’m putting this one back up for sale. I bought it for $4000 and would like to sell it for the same price.
It really is a beautiful guitar in excellent condition at a great price.
Please let me know if interested.
Thanks-Rob

???? The Magically Marvelous Maple beauty in the other thread? 😳
Rob, do tell.

The Skylark has sold
Paul, yes, and I've never had a guitar with an onboard effects loop, I'm looking forward to exploring that feature. :)
-
What guitar did you get?

What guitar did you get?
Jazzyvee, the one under the thread "Wish I played guitar", the burl maple custom guitar. :)
-
Hey Rob, so you bought the custom with the insane Burl Maple top? WOOHOO! Absolutely gorgeous! Enjoy, I know you will!

Yes, Bill, very excited about it, looking forward to checking it out! I have to read up on how to use an onboard effect loop. Thanks! Rob

Personally, I don't use OBEL. I even had my custom Further built without it. I prefer to go wireless. I accomplish essentially the same effect as the OBEL by leaving my guitar volume on "10" and placing a volume pedal last in my effects chain. That way my pedals always see the same level signal, the raison d'etre for the OBEL. I really like that your new guitar has a body shape similar to Alembic's standard medium scale guitar (which a slightly elongated upper horn) paired with the longer 25.5" scale length.

Nice approach, Bill. From what I read I’ll be needing a junction box for the OBEL, so your approach may be a nice option. :)
-
You don't need a HubBub or similar junction box. The HubBub allows you to use the OBEL or completely bypass it and have the guitar go straight to the amp. Your new Alembic (as most Alembics) already has an OBEL on/off switch on the guitar. The only advantage of the junction box is that your two guitar cables (signal & OBEL) initially go to the same location - the junction box. Then cables go from the junction box to the amp and to the pedal board. Without the box, one of your cables goes to your amp and the other to your pedal board. It seems to me, you can accomplish the same thing, with fewer but longer cables, by taping your guitar and OBEL cables together where you would put the junction box and having long enough cables to then continue to the amp and the pedal board. Not really much of an advantage. IMHO, the HubBub/junction box is a solution looking for a problem that doesn't really exist.

Ah, I see, that’s great! Thanks for the explanation, Bill! As usual, Alembic thinks of everything :)
