Seems like a good deal. Almost pulled the trigger myself, but it's an F-1X that I'm after.

It's GONE. I'd have JUMPED on that...

Seems like a good deal.
Just curious, do you remember what they were selling it for?
-
$699.
Bill, tgo

I tried that one out in person when it was fs at a GC near me. It had a serious squeal in the 2nd channel. I told them about it and they did not care, since they sold it anyway. This is the 3rd time they have sold it now. WARNING: do not buy it.
-
I was returned as well. Sold a while back at the same price.
-
Thanks for the heads up! :)
-
Just wondering, how do you know it’s the same one as those before?
-
Exact same price, timing (they are quite extremely rare) within the 45 day return policy and the fact that I doubt anyone at GC knows how to work one.
I usually like Guitar Center for used gear, but on this unit I don't like them just reselling it.
-
Ah, very good, thanks. I spoke with them about this after you posted. They hadn’t shipped it yet, but said they could not find the power supply to test it…not a comforting response…

It had a power supply when I played it. Where is it located?

Especially since if they try a power supply with the wrong polarity it will fry something internal and need (additional?) repairs.
-
There is a small cap (I think instead of a resister) inside that acts as a fuse and will blow if the wrong power supply is used. It's a pretty easy fix and Mica has pics how to do it in the FAQ if I remember right. The units are not too fussy about power supplies if they are the right polarity and around the correct volts.

It's back!
-
Unless they fixed it, well, it had a hum in the 2nd channel.
-

^^^This was how I stumbled upon mine ~25 years ago...shopping at the Guitar Center in Boston (back when it was on Comm. Ave. across from the BU central campus) I saw an SF-2 in the clearance rack and the sales dweeb literally said "If you can figure out what it does you can have it for what we paid for it"
-
If the wrong polarity power supply is used the green light indicator will turn on but there will be no sound. There's a post in the FAQ about the choke (inductor) (https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=262.0) that blows when you use the wrong polarity for the unit.
Hum is a different (or one of several different) but repairable issue(s).
