Title: Trying to contact Alembic
Post by: gearhed289 on November 11, 2022, 08:04:05 AM
Is orders@alembic. com the best place to contact someone? I've been trying to get through since mid-October, but haven't gotten a reply. If Mica see's this, here's what I wrote:
Hi, just following up on this. I think Comcast went out right about the time I hit send. Couple of things about this Exploiter - A previous owner apparently sent it to the Mothership around 2018. He said it was re-finished, re-fretted, brass polished (except control cavity cover), and an electronics upgrade. I'm not sure what that upgrade consisted of, but there are a couple of little guys on the circuit board that I don't recognize from other Distillates (I previously owned an awesome long scale). See attached pic, circled in red. Also, there's no ferrite bead in there which I thought would be part of an upgrade. I'm not having any noise issues, I'm just kind of curious as to what was done.
I do want to do the "make it louder" mod. I did it to my last one and loved the results. So for this one I bought some 2.7k, 1/4 watt resistors from a U.S. seller on eBay. Soldered them on last night and got a massively loud, overdriven signal. Something's obviously wrong. They're listed as "1/4 Watt 1% Metal Film Resistor". I'm assuming I bought the wrong thing, so I could use a pair of the right ones. And finally, I would like to swap out the pickup selector for a pan control. If it's a real pain to do, I can live with the selector, but a pan really opens up some nice tone options.Hope to hear back soon! Got a Who tribute gig coming Dec. 10!

This is the email I sent to you  on October 28th:

Hi Tom,

I can get you the resistors you need - but you are a brave one to work on
this handwired board. I will need your mailing address.

I don't have documentation for the pan pot conversion in the filed, since
most people will damage their circuit more doing this delicate conversion.
I don't have available time to schedule this modification until January.

Best regards,
Mica

Maybe check spam folder? Also, have we been talking on the phone about some pickups for this bass or is that another Exploiter in a Who tribute band?

How weird!?! I have been checking spam, I'm sorry. IDK why I didn't get this, but thank you. I put in an order for some polish, and Mary said she would talk to someone about the resistors, so yay!

I was not the one talking to you about pickups.
Oh, and yeah, it definitely takes some nerves to do the operation, but I've now done it twice (and undone it once) successfully.  :D
I know what you mean about being busy. The flight case shop I run is already filling up January.

The operation was a success FYI. Thanks again for the parts!  :D
