Hello Everyone.
This week I purchased a used Alembic Vector ( 1987)from reverb dot com.
I have wanted to own an Alembic Bass since about 1982 !
Well, the opportunity ( and funds) arrived and I went for it .
The Bass has dings and wear but it is not damaged and still looks pretty good.
The listing said it was once owned by the country rock group The Beat Farmers.
I also joined this forum today and I am so very proud to amongst all of you…
FINALLY !!!
I would like to post a picture once I find out how it’s done.
TTYL,
Tom .

Very nice bass, congratulations! :)
-
Hey Tom... congratulations on your new bass, play it in good health!

Hi Tom, welcome to the world of alembic basses. That's a great looking bass and no doubt will sound spectacular too.
If you hang out on this forum you will find it to be a huge knowledge bass on Alembic instruments and members keen to help you get the best out of your alembic.
After you get used to this bass, like many of us you may start to feel you need more of this alembic goodness.
I look forward to reading about your journey of getting to know this new alembic. 👍🏾

I think I'm the happies person when I see topics like this one "my first Alembic".... Congratulations, so happy for you.
-
Nice bass and congratulations on joining the Alembic "family." So your controls are volume, volume, filter...correct?
Keep in mind that one of the nice things about Alembics are that you can adjust both PU height and gain if you feel the need to tone down one PU while making another more prominent. Seems to me that I read on another thread that the neck PUs on the Vector/Persuader models were pretty darn powerful, while the bridge PU was a bit thin. But since its an Alembic its adjustable and you can compensate to get just the tone you want.
What amp/speaker cabs will you be playing it through?
-
Hello! Thanks for the compliment!!!
Yes, it’s just like a Persuader P&J setup. Volume, volume , then your Q knob. The variations are just awesome!
Right now as far as amplifier I have an Orange Crush Bass 50 practice amp as I just got back into playing about a year ago. The amp sounds great and now I’m curious about their larger rigs used for gigs.I have a Music Man Sterling Stingray import also.
Thanks again to all of you.
TTYL,
Tom

Nice! I love that body shape. Very comfortable and perfect balance.

Really nice Flame Maple on that bass!
-
Welcome to the club!
Nice flame on that bass. Enjoy getting to know it.
-
Heyy!
Thanks to all of you for your comments!
I truly feel like I am just dreaming and then unfortunately I have to wake up .
It’s been a longtime aspiration of mine to own one of these awe inspiring instruments.
This weekend I’m going to boil the strings and while the strings are off - a thorough cleaning and polish then install a new DiMarzio quick release strap. Then put the Vector on a brand -new guitar stand.
:D
TTYL,
Tom.
-
Nice. I hope it plays well.
-
Welcome! Cool bass! 😎
-
Thank you all.
-
I remember "that first Alembic" feeling.
-
Ah yes, the first one is always special. (The second and third won't be slouches, by the way, but let's not get ahead of ourselves).
However, one thing you won't like is how an Alembic will let boiled strings sound like they have been boiled.

had mixed luck with this. flats - definitely not.
roto jazz rounds - usually, but not always. mostly as a stop-gap while waiting for the new string order to arrive. which reminds me:. time for new strings at castle BeenDown. maybe give the pyramid flats another shot on teh fretless, eh what? 🧐
nice bass, btw. may it give you years of pleasure and bring your chops to anew level, sir.

Congratz Tom! That grain on the top though! PJ is a dream with Alembic elec! Nothing else will replace :) Post a sound/ video of that bass please
-
Congrats and welcome! Vectors are somewhat rare, so it's always nice to see one.
-
Yes, thanks. I look around the ‘net and find I am fortunate to have landed one as they are getting rare as you said… I bought it in the USA, AND it was only 300 miles away !
