Title: Bridge Orientation?
Post by: Steven Smolinski (stevens) on December 07, 2002, 03:43:20 PM
I've just bought a used fretless Essence.  I've noticed that the bridge isn't parallel to the body.  That is, the front of the bridge (edge nearest the bridge pickup) is about 1-2mm above the body, while the back edge of the bridge is suspended about 3mm above the body.

It's a relatively slight difference, but I need to know if I should try to correct it.  Is it not on tight enough?  Is there a problem because most of the strings require the bridge to be forward for intonation?

Any help appreciated.

This sounds fairly normal. If you notice any problems intonating or in playability let me know and we can schedule your bass for a service evaluation.

Great, thanks Mica.  It intonates fine, and string heights are fine as well.  I was just about to change strings and clean it, so I wanted to know if I should be alarmed by the slight slant.

Maybe I should buy a new Essence so I can compare the bridges on them (always looking for an excuse...)  :-)
