Title: 2002 Orion 5 string
Post by: djmay on September 10, 2022, 04:52:45 AM
Is 3500.00 a reasonable price for an Orion 5-string, 35 inch, made in 2002? I have only seen photos of the bass. It has 3 knobs and 4 switches; Europa electronics.

Additional question; what is the purpose of the 4th switch?

I found out that the 4th switch is led on/off.

DJ May, Alembics are hand crafted.  They are one of the rare instances of a USA manufactured good that truly IS good, if not great.   There is a polished, proficient passion instilled in each instrument by people who really care.

What I have observed with Alembics being bought and sold:
A reasonable price is subjective.
A good price is one where both the seller and buyer feel like they ‘got a Good Deal’.
A Good Deal is subjective based on each parties financial, cosmetic, and audio expectations.

Which is a long way of saying… I don’t know.  :o

Have you played it?

$3500 for an Alembic with Europa electronics certainly isn't a bad deal and could be a great deal if you play this extra long scale bass and determine that it is the "one" for you. All Alembics are custom to a point. Especially the necks.  I have several and all the necks are just a bit different.  If this was just a standard Orion, I would say no, but the Europa electronics make it a different animal altogether.

I have not played it. For that reason, I do not think I will go for it. It appears that the only upgrades are Europa electronics and leds.

It was originally sold through a dealer. I think the 35 inch description was a typo from the seller. The description is not in English.
