I have one of these explorer type basses, like John Entwistles, minus the spider webs and inlays :-)
Any idea how many were made, and when? What was initial cost, and what is current value?

I have one as well, I keep seeing a spider web inlaid into it in the future,(maybe have Boris dropping down from it....towards the future series electronics,it's a mono bass presently).
I love my Exploiter ...very much , I feel I got a good deal when I bought it about a year ago for $900
It fits nicely into Entwistle's case that has a tag reading Alembic 001(form-fit plastic with purple fuzz inside).I think the bass is at a hard rock cafe somewhere.
Did anyone here pick up the two entwislte inspired basses that were on ebay?(the 4 and 8 string)...wow : )..beauties.
...keepin' the books on the floor ; }

...still goin on.
Are these the first production models with individual tailpieces?
I've always been curious as to how the combination of vibes in the saddle(s) and tailpiece(s) affects the tone that's heard.
...thoughts and revelations appreciated.

The Exploiter body shape is an optional shape for jsut about every model. Until the Spyder basses, it wasn't the default shape for any bass we made.
These are the first production basses we've made with the individual tailpieces.
The Spyder basses have an absolutely explosive sound - extremely resonant and responsive, even compared to what we normally produce. I'm not sure if it's the woods, the large body shape, the individual tailpeices or even the several ounces of silver in the inlays, or maybe it's just the combination of it all. In any event, these are just a load of fun to play.

What about the woods and electronics of the spider bass?
