I notice this hot omega online all the time. Is it a series 1 or 2? does anyone of you own it? I wonder what year it is. This has to be one of the coolest Alembics I've seen.

Looks pretty much like a series II to me with custom knob placement. Master Volume closest to the bridge and the pickup selector at the top.

That's a Series II. You can tell by the Q controls which are switches on Series I and knobs on Series II.
Since you're in this discovery phase, feast your eyeballs on some the these fine examples:

That bass is an '86 Series II... it's been for sale a few times, most recently twice in the Nashville 'burbs.
I am not sure on the exact timeline for the extended upper-horn body, but the mid-80's are dotted with these. They seem to phase out about the time we start seeing Series electronics show up in different shaped basses. I can't remember seeing many from the 90's. The long-horn design, I'm fairly sure, was to counter the inherent balance issue with long-scale Series basses. Works out well too... one of my Distillates, the '85 fretless, has a variation on this design.

I've been to the new Alembic site a few time Jimmy. Alembic has evolved to so many designs i can't keep up! I like the Darling series 2.
