Title: superb practice tool from Yamaha.
Post by: jazzyvee on June 03, 2022, 04:11:18 PM
I bought one of those little yamaha THR practice amps just over a month ago as i had a couple of guitar gigs and don't have a small amp for home practice.  I downloaded the iphone app mentioned in the documentation and i think it's realy good. You can load a track you are learning, slow it down, change key and mark A & B repeat points for those tricky sections. Also you can remove, (as near as damn it),either the bass or guitar track so that you can play along without those instruments .

The only thing i would like extra is the ability to load a playlist that i'm working on.
It's a free app too.

When I click on the link I get a message that the app is not available in my country or region.

it may not be available in the usa but try changing the 'gb' in the link url to 'us' or 'usa' https://apps.apple.com/us/app/thr-session/id485607882 (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/thr-session/id485607882)
or try searching the app store for Yamaha THR

Looks like it is Apple compatible only as I can't find an Android version.

i searched the goggle play store and couldn't find anything that resembled this.  i've still got my 30-year-old korg pandora PX4-B tat gets used almost every day.  pretty sure i've given myself carpal tunnel a coupla times with this thing.  it's survived 2 marriages and countless basses over the years.  i'm running outta devices it's compatible with.  it's pretty sensitive to RFI and so i can't use it around a cellphone (especially a 5G).  i've got one old samsung tablet with an actual 1/8" headphone jack that it still works with.  when that craps out, it'll be a sad day at BeenDown manor.  seriously.  for sure.

So, Jazzy, do these things work on bass?  I know they list a 'Bass' preset, but have you tried it?

Thanks,

JW

I use the yamaha thr amp for both although i only use it with headphones for bass. the bass setting on the app removes , almost, the bass line from the track you play along to
