description is saying they replicated series electronics and ordered new pickups from Alembic.
I am very curious on how this works.... but the body and neck looks to be in decent shape.
bit too much for 'replace electronics' and also they claim the logo was applied upside down from the factory, which is very hard to believe....
I am too far from this bass (3 hours by bullet train, 8 hours by car) so not gonna be able to check. Maybe Jeff is near by?

Interesting. Really need pic of the serial number though. The upside down logo is very odd.
-
Chances are nil that this left the factory with an upside down logo. But, it is easy to accidentally knock the logo loose, or off, when cleaning it so I suspect it was put back on upside down. Personally I would not buy an Alembic with a third-party preamp in it.

Hahahahahah
Whew, sorry about that. We've sure made a lot of mistakes over the years, but an upside-down logo? There's a few early handcut ones that were reversed, but upside-down could not happen.
The instrument has has a lot of work - I suspect refinishing. A re-veneered peghead (very common in refinishing) and a lack of reference could make an repair person mount the logo upside-down, oops on them. Considering the condition of the backplates, the finish looks quite nice.
Like I said, we're human and of course are not above making mistakes, but there's no way it left here like that.
I've added "upside-down logo" to the short list of "no" options.

Perhaps it was played in an alternate universe for a while, and that orientation was actually correct in that place?
(Ed had a bad night...)

well i did the rithmetic and that's $4325.83 USD. at today's used instrument prices it almost might be worth taking a chance on. almost. not this cowboy. no way. nope.

Mica-san: I'm glad I made you laugh lol. Yes, we all make mistakes, but to put a company logo upside down? Nah.

It’s an intriguing bass :)

Hi All:
Takeo san, I heard about it from the shop manager before it came in, and did play it.
Looks and Feel: aside from said inverted logo, gorgeous looks; smooth to the touch; looks fantastic.
Sound: Herein lies the problem: as I’ve never played an S I, I can’t tell you the differences, other than I didn’t “feel” that Q filter’s nuances like I did with that SC Sig I tried….but again, how would I know having not played a “real” S I? The bass ran on batteries, not the power supply. Probably not included.
Maybe someone would want to send this to the mothership for a check and actual electronics if it were possible and the person was so inclined; it wouldn’t come out to the price of a new one would it?
I will keep saving for a new one while looking for used.

I couldn’t find an English translation for the site or name of the actual shop that is selling the bass (Digimart is an online sales forum in Japan from what I understand). I did see a statement that prices listed in red indicate items sold or on hold. Last night the price was in blue, today it is red text, so I assume a transaction has occurred or is in progress.

No, rv: it’s not on hold or anything…name of the shop is Miki Gakki Bass Side: Manager is Tsukiyama san. He’s a cool cat. I could translate it for you, but Google saved me the trouble!
Here you go
Since it was brought in with the preamplifier removed, we consulted with Mr. Takahaya, the representative of the handmade effector brand TRIAL, and had it completely reproduced based on the original 1975 Series 1 preamplifier that was in stock at our shop at that time. Not all parts are the same as those at that time, but we use semiconductors from that time as much as possible. Since the pickup was broken when it arrived, we asked ALEMBIC to make a new pickup. As a result, the pickup was replaced with a new ALEMBIC pickup. Think of the preamplifier as a TRIAL product that has been restored to the original circuit. The essential sound outputs a wonderful sound comparable to the ALEMBIC sound. Since the pickup and preamplifier are new, the sound power is sufficient. You can also use a power supply.
Although it is in good condition, there is a step on the adhesive surface between the wing and the neck material due to aging, but it does not seem to cause any major problems. Scratches and dents can be seen according to other ages. The neck condition is kept in good condition, and the play condition is also good with the remaining amount of frets / truss rods. It is a unique and unique one with the logo on the head top mounted upside down from the beginning.

I like this bass other than the electronics. The top is fantastic. Aftermarket filters tend to be noisy, and aren't in the ballpark tone-wise. I have experience in that regard, as I have an aftermarket filter setup for my stage rig that I use occasionally with my non-alembic basses. I use it to bump up the uglier mids which helps me cut through in bad rooms.

Just checked on it today…was sold!

"Replicated" sure sounds a lot like copied / stolen. >:(
