I just acquired this 1976 Series 1 long scale bass serial 76 412. It has pretty extensive crazing but plays and sounds amazing. Have discussed refinishing with Mica but not sure if I will or not. Last night I discovered a 2016 thread of an earlier purchase of the bass, amazingly it had a pic of the general woods rundown
from Alembic to an earlier owner, which should save Mica the trouble of looking it up. Here’s a pic of the bass and specs.
-
It came with a non original pickup selector knob which I replaced with the proper pointer knob.
-
There is also somewhere on this site a recent posting by someone who purchased a newly refinished 76 Series I with Purple Heart top and back. I can’t find the thread right now, but if you can find it you can see what yours might look like refinished.
Congratulations on a cool bass!

Thanks, RV.
Next I’ve got to post about my childhood almost-Alembic from Stars Guitars. Where do you think I should post an interesting story and pics of it?
-
Hmmm…if it’s an Alembic instrument then maybe under the Fun Stories thread, which is under Owning an Alembic. If not an Alembic, then maybe under Miscellaneous. Mods, can you suggest where might be best? Look forward to reading your story!

Just to clarify, the card there reads #76-412. That number rang my bell, (because it's close to a couple more I know) and here's a thread on it from a while back you must have found. https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=21981.msg222364#msg222364 (https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=21981.msg222364#msg222364)
That's a pretty bass you have there. Wait and see if the old finish crazing grows on you. I know the bass Rob is thinking about... it's this '76 Custom fretless, with an inlaid purpleheart top. https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=7000.0 (https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=7000.0) There are good before/after pics showing what they can do at the Mothership when they get fully involved on a restoration.

Thanks, RV.

The base rule is that if it's not an Alembic instrument, it's perfectly welcome under Miscellaneous.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and put it in fun stories. I think you’ll all see why.

Sorry all, I inadvertently said 76 214 when I meant 76 412. All fixed now. Thanks for spotting that Adriaan!
-
Oops, another typo in your message above (77), did you mean 76-412?
-
Fixed. Boy me and numbers today…

I’ve checked out these photos and boy it makes me tilt toward refinishing…I’ll keep thinking about it.

This is the one I was thinking of…
-
Oh my! I assume this is the "after"—any "before" pics? Thanks RV
-
No before pics, I think this one is in the UK.

That
This is the one I was thinking of…
This looks like the one I saw at Jaydee Custom guitars all prep'd for respraying.
