There are a couple places where the number could be located for that bass... it's a little bit unusual. I will guess most likely inside the control cavity, and possibly in the end of the fingerboard too. It may also be engraved on the truss rod cover. Check the underside in case someone flipped it over.

Congratulations & Compliments, Welcome.

One other place it might be though not usually on that model is the back of the headstock between the tuners. Also it is not unusual for serial numbers that are stamped onto the end of the fingerboard to be worn down and hard to read. In these situations using a piece of paper and pencil to take a rubbing can be helpful in making the number visible.

If you still can't find the serial number there are date codes on the pots that can help determine a rough time frame for when it was built.

Thanks for th answers!!  :)
With a red pencil I think I've managed to get the number  8)
88H4337 or 88H4937

Is there a way to find the history of it.
It was special puchased to Norway :)
And what would a fair value on the instrument be?

Kind Regards
Stig

Well done! I would call that a 88H 4937

H letter code = Elan, but that particular Elan has what looks like Spoiler Electronics.

Mica looks these numbers up in batches... subscribe to the thread, or just check back in here every so often, she'll find all there is on your bass when she gets to them. That's an interesting one for sure.

Hi,

Is anynone updating this page?

-Stig :)
Well, I've added the serial number to the thread title, so next time Mica gets around to doing a round of lookups, your request may make the grade. :)

Here's the details from the instrument file:

serial number: 88H4937
model name: Elan
model number: HLB5
top: Burl Walnut
accent: None
body: Mahogany
neck: 7-piece Maple and Purpleheart
scale: 34" long
fingerboard: Ebony
inlays: Pearloid (plastic) ovals
pickups: Alembic AXY
controls: "Elan" volume, pan, filter, 2-position Q-switch, mono output
originally made for: Guitar Workshop, Norway
birthday: June 17, 1988

Walnut does get lighter over time, but I'd like to see another picture of the body because it's reading more Burl Maple - so also please check the serial number is correct.
