Title: Something ain't factory here; advice needed
Post by: cozmik_cowboy on March 08, 2022, 02:35:03 PM
When my youngest moved to AK, among the things he didn't take was a little Squier 15 SS amp; I keep it by my bench for testing things.
Today I was doing some fret-end work & wanted to see if I'd gotten it good enough that I could play without requiring sutures after.  I had, for that very reason, not played it in a while, so I figured I'd plug it in.  I plugged, I turned on - and I was greeted with a hellacious buzz and a radio station.  It worked perfectly the last time I turned it on.

Whiskey tango foxtrot, over?

Upon further investigation:

Unplugged the cord from the input & turned the amp on; silence.

Plugged the guitar back in with a new cord & turned it on; worked fine.

Just for confirmation, plugged it back in with the old cord & turned it on; worked fine!

I'm baffled & confused...................

I had two pickup connectors reversed one time, putting them out of phase, and one of them started picking up a Cuban radio station until I figured it out.

Naw - the onliest things I've done electronically are add a jumper so the 2nd Tone works on the bridge as well as the middle p/up, and add a mini-toggle to cut the neck p/up on independent of the 5-way for all 7 combos - and it worked fine, in the same place with the same amp & cord, after that.  My old friend & former next-door neighbor came by to run my snowblower this PM (I being too gimped to do so these days), and he - drummer, keyboardist, guitarist, bassist, and serious tech guy - said that when he was in the 'hood, one of the 3 radio stations within a mile of here would come in on his Leslie (interestingly, the farthest one), but he has no idea about the buzz.

Just to make it more fun:  The computer I had when we moved in in '06 would pick up a Catholic station - even when the speakers were off; I had to unplug them.  And there's no Catholic station anywhere near here..........

Peter (whose parents would tell him the lord was trying to overcome his heathen ways - except they'd think he'd do it with a Methodist station......)
