Hi Rob, thanks. I got this from a guitar player in Texas a couple of years ago. It's very much like David Hood's bass that sold a while back. It goes great with the '78 Omega MSB you sold to me; I call the '78 my "rock" bass as it does that so well. The neck wood interests me as it might have some beech or birch in it. I'll wait for the history info and hopefully find out.

Hi Kieth,

Love the Bird's-eye Maple! Here's what I found in the instrument file:

top: Bird's-eye Maple
accent: Purpleheart laminates
body: Mahogany
back: Bird's-eye Maple
Peghead veneer: Zebrawood
neck: Maple and Purpleheart
inlays: not recorded, but looks like mother of pearl from here
originally made for: Rothschild
birthday: February 11, 1977

No Beech or Birch in the record.

Beautiful bass, Keith. 77-624 and my 621 probably haven't been in the same company for 45 years or so... we gotta' fix that some day.

(wouldn't you just love to know about 622 & 623...?)

Hey Greg,
So close together, our basses. Your bass has a nice top on it; bet it sounds great. Mine has built-in fingerboard relief from the factory, kinda like camber on an upright board, I suspect, that works for dry and wet climates. The truss rod is only for function if needed, which is never. Incredible build quality from the earlier days of Alembic. Original frets on mine, and Ron has gone through it with no need for an upgrade.

That’s a really nice bass.  I had a 76 like that, it’s one bass I wish I still had :)

Rob, David Hood's LSB is very similar. Do you have a pic of the '76?

Keith, it was 76-265

Red LEDs original from 76, silver bound abalone inlays, great bass, maybe it will find its way back some day :)

Nice. Looks like an un-matched top and back like Hood's bass. Very cool.

Yes, and those dark mold stripes are similar to Entwistle’s 76 Birdseye maple S1, they must have done a batch of them…ironically, I now own 76-562 :)
