Post by: fpalu2000 on October 25, 2021, 09:02:47 AM
Hello, new to the club.  Just received my first Alembic.  1987 Spoiler.  Looking for build info, wook types, etc.  Thanks so much.

Also, can anyone help explain how to add images?  The button above does not seem to work.
Thanks

As Mica looks up build information as she finds time sometimes it can take a while to get the build information. We do like pictures so if you post some folks should be able to give you an idea of the build or possible siblings built around the same time.

Congratulations on your first Alembic.

To post pictures..." first reduce the physical size; the maximum height is 1,200 pixels and the maximum width is also 1200 pixels.  Next is reducing the file size; the maximum file size if 500kB, and no more than 10 attachments per post."

Once your photos are the proper size they should be easy to upload. Using the quick reply feature, after entering text hit preview. There should be a button to attach images, if they are the correct size they should upload and be visible.

edit: Looks like you got the pictures to show. Really nice looking Spoiler, looks like the top might be Indian rosewood.

Frank,
Welcome to the camp.  I am willing to bet you smile when you strap that on.  ;D

New owner tip, these are sensitive creatures, a small turn of a knob and plucking hand position shifts can evoke a wide variety of tonal variations.   Experiment and have fun!

Taking to the stage with an alembic strapped on is a great feeling even if no-one else knows what bass you are wearing. Have a great gig. :-)

“Wow cool bass is that a Ken Smith?”
“No it is an Alembic, hand crafted….”
gets cut off-
“Olympic? Never heard of them.”

This file is extremely scant on details. Here's what it says:
Mashinof Music
10/30/1987
Coco Bolo
MSB

So, we will have to fill in the blanks. This is what is likely for the time:
top:Coco Bolo
accent: none
body: Mahogany
neck: 3-piece Maple
scale 32" medium
fingerboard: Ebony
inlays: Pearloid (plastic) ovals
pickups: Alembic AXY4controls: "Spoiler" volume, filter, Q-switch, 4-position rotary pickup selector switch, mono output
originally made for: Mashinof Music
birthday: October 30, 1987
