Title: Happy Birthday - Alison Krauss
Post by: edwardofhuncote on July 23, 2021, 04:14:11 AM
Al's 50 today. Go on, girl... play that fiddle and sing them songs for another 50.  :)

I reckon the first time I saw her play live, was this old dive here in Roanoke called the Iroquois Club. I remember I wasn't old enough to be in there yet, maybe 19 or 20, so she must have been 17 or 18. We all watched in amazement what happened in years to come to the shy little girl with the big voice and the fast bow. Time truly flies.

Last time we saw her was probably ten years ago or more in Ediburgh which was a wonderful Gig. Full Union Station lineup. Shame she doesn't get over here more often. I think Bonnie Raitt has probably been here 5 times since we saw Alison.

Birthday?  Don't be silly; Alison is an ageless Goddess!

Hard to argue that point, Coz. I'm really glad that she's been able to have a somewhat successful career and a nice private life out of the spotlight too.

Here you see her having a little fun introducing Barry Bales, longtime bassist-

That intro is usually the setup to "Oh, Atlanta" in the set. Then she and the band just kill it.

Yeah, she is as good as it gets.  I first saw her when I was stuck in a Calgary airport hotel overnight when a blizzard forced me to miss my connection to Lethbridge, my home town.  Alison was on one of the many cable channels on the TV.  I'd never heard anything so good!  Seemed like a divine intervention in my life.  Saw her and US at the El Mocambo in Toronto a few years later.  What a show.  Happy Birthday and thanks for all the wonderful music!
