Title: (x) History request for serial no. 04C13237
Post by: Rainbow Music on February 05, 2021, 04:03:52 AM
Hello,
I'd like to find out some info on this bass please.
A regular customer has owned it for a while but knows nothing about it. Any info would be gratefully received.

Thank you,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Here's what I tracked down from the instrument file:

serial number: 04C13237
model name: Custom Bass
model number: CLB4
top: Walnut
accent: none
body: Mahoganny  Ash
neck: 3-piece Maple with 2 Walnut pinstripes
scale: 34" long
fingerboard: Ebony
inlays: not recorded, so maybe none? you can let me know what you see
peghead shape: Orion 4
body shape: JZ Style
pickups: JZN and JZB
controls: volume, pan, filter, 2-position Q-switch, mono side-mounted jack
logo: inlaid bronze with shell
originally made for: Bass World UK
birthday: February 25, 2004

The owner of Bass World UK ordered quite a few of these Jazz style body shape basses. There's only a few other ones besides the ones he commissioned.

I have seen a few of these J-style basses for sale in the UK over the years. There is this one that forum member George Price owns
https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=24620.0
and I have seen a couple with burl or spalted maple tops on sale at the UK alembic distributor which were on ebay for years. Not there now so probably sold.
Any chance you could post a photo?

Hi folks,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Your info is very much appreciated.

The inlays are red LED and the body looks to be a lighter wood. Ash perhaps?

My customer is moving the bass on so it will be available for sale shortly.

Here's a link to a few photos.

I will double check the file is correct on the body wood - it's also possible my autopilot was strong that day (and my spelling was off!).

The LEDs are not original, no doubt there are SIMS.
